How does Virtual Media Web ISO work on SuperMicro ipmi? I am using SuperMicro sever. I want to be able to mount bootable ISO image to a server, launch long process there (disk formatting), and then turn off my laptop. But if I do it, the remote booted OS will hang, because of virtual CD ROM will become unreadable.

In ipmi java application in Virtual Storage there is an item called Web ISO. I thought I could upload my ISO to a personal site, and make it available over http(s), so media will stay online even when I turn off my laptop. But the "Image File Name and Full Path" field and "Open Image" button for the web iso are greyed out, so I cannot select it. I also checked that java application in Windows OS, and still that button is greyed out there. Is it possible to mount an iso image from a web site as a virtual storage?

I'm trying to make an HP DL170 G6 server boot via the "virtual media" feature.
The system doesn't even try to boot from the virtual media, it seems unable to see it!

Here's the test we've been doing:

• Checked correct boot order to force CD/DVD and removable drives
• Disabled all the other boot items and tested CD/DVD and removable drives singularly
• Checked if ISOs are bootable, tried multiple ISOs (Knoppix, Ubuntu, Damn Small Linux)
• Successfully tried to boot from USB stick (so the ISO is good)
• Tried different client OSes (windows XP 64, Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu 11.04)
• Tried different Java JVM (1.4.2_19, the bare minimum)
• Checked if the USB subsystem was enabled in BIOS
• Removed any USB peripheral attached to the system like USB keyboards (stated as a possible problem)
• Upgraded BIOS and iLO firmwares to the latest revisions
• Excluded network problems (blocked ports, etc.) by connecting the iLO straight to a laptop with an Ethernet cable
• removed vlan config from the iLO
• Rebooted the system multiple times, cold booted the system as well
• Tried different browsers (Opera 11.50, Firefox 4, Firefox 5, Chrome, Internet Explorer 8)
• Checked, double checked, triple checked that the "connect" button in the virtual media applet was pressed and the ISO correctly mounted
• Ran the browser as root

All these tests have been done and nothing succeeded so far. Anybody know what's wrong?

I'm looking for software that would help to implement above described scenario. By automation i mean minimization of actions needed for that process. For example, it would be nice to run some daemon that will constantly look to some folders and convert videos with specific settings as soon as they appear there. Both input and output folders could be shared over network and be very convenient. Handbrake-CLI + inotify + some other custom (cron?) scripts may be a solution, but maybe somewhere exist a solution with such out-of-the-box functionality?

We are looking to upgrade our network infrastructure. We have fiber between our IDFs and our MDF but have found fiber core switches to be significantly more expensive than copper. If we were to have a copper core switch and use media converters to connect them to fiber to the closets, would there be any performance impact (bandwidth, latency, etc.?) compared to having a fiber switch?

My office is thinking of setting up a media server with speakers connected to it so that everyone in our office can queue up music via a web app. Right now we just pass around a speaker cable. I'd like something like a jukebox, where the server plays its music through its speakers.

Does anyone know of a Linux web app we could install or some third-party web service that would allow anyone with access to the site/account to queue up music to be played on the media server?

Is there a webapp that could find shared music on the local network?
