We have a relatively small organization (~15 users), and have used the ForeFront EndPoint Protection 2010 desktop client without the use of central management, like Configuration Manager.
Now that the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager and Endpoint Protection is rolled together as one installation package, do you have to stand up the Configuration Manager to use the Endpoint Protection desktop client? Or can we still use the desktop client as a standalone anti-virus solution?
I have seen that Microsoft Forefront Endpoint protection has pretty decent pricing, although it seems to require a separate System Configuration Manager installed that's quite pricey.
I am currently running 8 Windows 2008 servers and would love to use Endpoint protection, but I wonder if it's going to be a lot of work to accomplish this due to the requirement of System Configuration Manager.
I am not sure SCCM would help me in any other way, except for anti-virus. A four digit price tag would be a bit pricey considering that the actual Forefront licenses are reasonably priced.
I'm just starting a trial of ForeFront TMG to use as a proxy server.
I know I can get a real time activity monitor and filter on a per user basis, but would like to be able to get a real time activity monitor of all users that I can then sort by bandwidth consumed (enabling me to get a view on who the bandwidth hogs are).
Does anyone know if this is possible in Forefront TMG or if a third party product is required?

One feature of Forefront is the ability to pre-authenticate external users before their requests are sent to a published web application. In addition, it is supposed to be able to forward the accepted credentials to the web application (according to technet). How specifically are these credentials passed? Are they in a header? Are they sent with every request, or just the first?
We have configured Microsoft forefront TMG 2010 Enterprise as the cache server which provides internet access for all computers in our department.
Is there any way to limit download speed per host/user by configuring forefront TMG?
I have found a tool called Bandwidth Splitter but it is expensive ($499 for 50 clients!) and we would like to avoid it.
It is a shame for Microsoft if its 6 thousands dollar software does not provide this feature, but squid does! (with leaky buckets)
