Questions[mod-perl](server)

I am installing software and one of the dependencies is mod_perl, when i run

  #perl Makefile.PL 

I receive this error:

************* WARNING *************

Your Perl is configured to link against libgdbm,

but libgdbm.so was not found.

You could just symlink it to /usr/lib/libgdbm.so.2.0.0

EDIT: I am using RHEL 5

HELP me???

What factors should I consider when deciding whether to use Apache's mod_perl or mod_cgi, when configuring an existing web application?

I've written some software that uses Perl code running inside Apache (using mod_perl) to work with (amongst other things) subversion (using the mod_dav_svn module).

I'm currently writing some how-to docs on how to get this set up and running on various OSs and I've run into problems on Solaris.

• The Apache2 server that ships with Solaris10 has mod_perl but not mod_dav_svn - I can't find a binary svn package built against this apache.
• Sunfreeware has subversion and apache 2.2 packages that work together but not mod_perl.
• Various binary subversion packages (eg Collabnet) include apache but not mod_perl.

It seems that my option is to build either mod_perl or subversion from source, which is something I was really hoping to avoid as I'm trying to make the install instructions as non-technical as possible.

So, is there a binary package available that lets me get mod_perl and mod_dav_svn running in the same Apache on Solaris 10 that I've missed?

Failing that, if there's anyone who has had to do this before, would they like to comment on which of building svn or building mod_perl is going to be the smallest headache.

I have an Apache server set up to use mod_perl. I have it set up to handle all requests using a Perl module MyModule. Here is part of my httpd.conf:

This seems to work fine, except top level directory (ie. www.mysite.com/) is not being sent to MyModule. What's going wrong?

I'm going to be running multiple subdomains, eventually too many to be able to each have their own config files. I have the vhosts working how I want them so each subdomain has their own folder eg /web/test which will serve webpages for that subdomain. I want to have each subdomain have its own SVN and trac project eg http ://test.mastersiege.com/trac the problem is you cant use variables in apache.

where $1 = subdomain. and I cant sym link the trac folder into the subdomains home folder and then use vhost_alias's doc root as TracEnv. I tried writing a Perl script in the apache config files which parses the subdomain from the URL much like Using URL within Vhost container with mod_perl dynamically but It didnt work

Thats my first ever perl script so Im unsure.. It is possible to use cgi for trac which would solve the problem but it its about 100x slower then mod_python
