I installed and then uninstalled Microsoft Security Essentials on Server 2008 R2 - after installation I noticed that there were 12 updates on a supposedly fully updated system. I did a little further comparison with another Server 2008 R2 server and noticed that after installing MSE I now have an extra option titled "Microsoft Update - Give me updates for Microsoft products and check for new optional Microsoft software when I update window". How can I enable this on regular Server 2008 R2 installation without installing MSE?
I am using an MS-SQL Server 2008 instance as back-end DB server for a project. I did some security tests on the machine hosting my project and SQL Server and got the following report on SQL Server:
On port 1853/TCP
a database server is running (specifically MSSQL and a version number) and that the response was available in the pre-login response.
How can I hide this information and SQL Server altogether?
I can't find a way to create a trigger and allow access to specific IPs but I am not sure if this addresses my problem here properly.
Is there any way to check this via VBScript or Powershell? I have briefly looked at the SecurityCenter
and SecurityCenter2
WMI classes, but neither of them look especially useful. It appears the easiest way is determining what the value of productState
via the latter in WMI to get some message that means AV thinks it's OK. Any other thoughts?
I would like to rollout MSE over a network, mange it and update it all remotely. I am sick of having to visit each and every client.
