Questions[not-responding](server)

Everything was working just fine until i rebooted my server and now when I visit the page (with both apache and mysql running), I get the following:

Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to mydomain.com

Apache is confirmed to be running, as is MySQL.

The /var/log/httpd/error_log looks as follows:

I believe the caught SIGTERM, shutting down is when i performed service httpd restart

Again -- server, apache, and MySQL are up and running, only using 7% of disk space, but I cannot get it to serve any pages. I haven't touched the httpd.conf file any time recently so I'm not sure what is going on.

Also, apache restarts just fine given its config file. The configuration points to the correct directory as well.

Any ideas?

On my OS X 10.5 server every time I launch an application it goes 100% cpu and "not responding". Terminal, Console, System Preferences, all normal applications. The only thing not affected seems to be the Finder.

I can ssh into the server, and "top" shows any app I've opened pinned at 100%. I can kill these processes so everything's back to 0% (with background processes I assume) but when opening a new app - e.g. Activity Monitor - the app will pin again.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot and fix without rebooting?

To start things off, I'm not the actual Administrator for the VPN Server, but he is also at a loss so I thought I'd ask it here. I know it's a Cisco ASA Firewall/VPN.

I have a router that connects to the Cisco VPN server, it does so succesfully. I can ping everything within the remote network and from the remote network into my own. I've been able to SSH into a remote server over VPN as well, it all seems to work; until there's some more data returned.

A quick example would be an internal webserver. The default homepage simply redirects, so only sends back HTTP headers with a "Location:". I receive this on my computer, but when I request the actual page then (which isn't that big) I don't get a response at all - it just stalls. And it does this for other services as well, for example SSH. I can do a couple of things while connected, but if there's more than xx output it seems to do nothing. The connection remains active throughout all of this.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before / know what the problem might be? Another user who has a site-to-site connection with this VPN using the -exact same setup- has no problems, the only difference is that I have around 200ms ping to the VPN server/network because of a very long distance (other continent).

The machine is a brand new Dell Precision m6500, Core i5, 8GB RAM. Windows Server 2008 R2 (fully patched) with Hyper-V Role Enabled.

Virtualization options in the BIOS are ON, SpeedStep is OFF, couldn't find C1E option in the BIOS to turn it off (I also got the impression that SpeedStep is C1E, but the Intel Product site lists them as separate "features." shrug)

The server stops responding without any apparent reason. I've tried testing in multiple scenarios, all of which result in a crash at seemingly random times:

1. With the Server sitting idle, no apps running.
2. Server sitting idle with a Virtual Machine running.
3. Using a BurnInTest application

There's no blue screen. It doesn't restart. The screen just sits there. The keyboard backlight still responds and comes on with input, but nothing on the screen changes. There are no errors in the error log. I have to hold down the power button to turn it off. Doing memory tests on bootup results in no errors with the memory.

I have a second identical system and the same thing happens there too. I've dual-booted into Windows 7 Profession x64 on this system with no problems. Further testing has shown that the issue is definitely related to Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V as it appears the crashing does not happen when the services are not running.

I've installed all hotfixes relating to this issue (that I could find): 975530, 979444, 979491, 976427

System is still crashing without response.

Exposition:

We use a program built in MS Access that I serve via Terminal Services. I just installed a new TS Server with a Quad Core 2.6GHz Xeon, 8GB RAM, and 4 SATA drives in a RAID 0. In installed Server 2008 R2 (64bit obviously). It's only role is TS.

The problem:

With just a few sessions (under 10), I start getting frequent Not Responding messages in each session. When it happens, the users aren't doing anything particularly taxing, just form navigation and simple insert queries.

I can live with some stalls, but it is visually jarring in WS08 because the screen goes gray, and it presents a dialog offering to wait or close with some other options.

Questions:

1. Any suggestions for improving performance and reducing hangs?
2. Is it possible to disable the dialog (always wait) and screen graying?
