I need to activate the Offline Files on my web server. This solution is for solve trouble with IIS shared configuration. There is the reason why I need to activate the Offline files.

I try to activate Offlines files on windows 2008 r2 but i am not able to do it.

Some body know why ?

I cannot see offline files in my control panel. Why ?

Many of our users have their Home folder set as Available Offline. Their Windows 7 laptops will not be back on our network for a few weeks. In the mean time, we're setting up new servers and reorganizing our files, so the network path to the Home folder is going to be completely different.

Based on some testing I did, when the users return, any files they've created or modified while offline will be gone, and the new Home folder will be there and not set to sync. The offline cache of the old Home folder is still accessible through the Sync Center, but they're not going to want to dig through that and try to find what's missing. Avoiding this would involve keeping the old server around and moving everyone to the new location in person, so we know for sure they're synced first.

Is there any way to avoid this that isn't as tedious, like a quick registry edit or something that will point the old offline cache to the new location?

Several users are using offline folders to refer to a server we want to decommission... actually the server is already offline and people have pending updates to this share.

What is the best way to move these cached files to a new server with a new name without losing the new data?

We have a bunch of excel files that are at random becoming corrupt. The error message is excel has found unreadable content...

I believe this question is relevant to serverfault because the problem has only started occurring since we have setup folder redirection, roaming user profiles and offline files on our desktops. The files have been in use for around 5 years prior with no issues.

The excel files are located in a subfolder of our company folder on the server. The entire company folder is shared and available offline. About 32gb in total.

After one of the files became corrupt I tried to restore if from a backup. From one of the desktops I deleted the corrupted file on the server, I copied the new file to the existing location then opened, saved, closed, opened and noticed it was corrupted. I can recreate this occurrence many times, but the weird thing is it seems to be related to that particular folder. If I copy the file to any other folder (even other shared and available offline folders), open, save, close, reopen it then it is not corrupted. It only gets corrupt if I copy it to its original location.

Does anyone know what an earth is going on?

Using windows 7 on all desktops and windows server 2008 r2 on the server.

I've been struggling with this issue for days and cannot seem to find anyone else with a similar issue.

I will note first that I have tried using both roaming profiles and the group policy setting for force local profiles.... now onto the problem.

What I am trying to do is have my teachers accounts log onto their laptops using their domain credentials. Once logged in their desktop and documents are redirected to a network share //server/redirects/documents/.

This works fine when the computer is connected to the domain network. Offline File Sync works great and caches the files locally.

However this all breaks down when the user logs in when the computer is no longer connected to the domain network. When the user logs in the desktop and documents are empty. What I find very odd is if I manually go to the offline file folder all of the files are there, The group policy folder redirection does not execute to the offline folder. Is this by Design? (It does not work like this on Vista, I have the exact same group policy settings set on vista machines and it works flawlessly).

Additional Info

When I look at the event log there is no folder redirection events at all when user logs in and is not connected to the network.

In addition a new profile is create in c:/users/username.domain.00x. Every log in creates an additional profile. There is a event that states that a registry files were still in use.

Any help would be appreciated.
