Questions[opsview](server)

I was setting up some new RHEL machines to monitor with our Opsview Community 20120424 server (which is based on 3.x) and discovered that the Opsview yum repository no longer has the 3.x opsview-agent, only the 4.0 agent.

Given that 4.0 is a significant break from 3.x, I am dubious as to why they would have completely removed the old agent if it were not compatible, given that most IT departments aren't going to just upgrade the core monitoring server to 4.0 just so they can install new clients.

Does anyone know if the 4.0 agent is compatible with the 3.x server, or if I need to install an older version?

FYI, an older version is available at linux.mirrors.es.net, but I would rather just install the latest version if it works.

I'm trying to set up opsview (Nagios) on a CentOS 5 server running perl 5.8.9

When I try to start it, it can't find RRDs.pm. Turns out, neither can I. It's not on CPAN and I've been unable to determine what package would provide it. yum provides "*/RRDs.pm" doesn't return any results.

Edit: so we've established that it should come with the perl-rrdtool package, but unfortunately hasn't. Where do I go from here?

I'm querying some signal level values measured in dBm, and the SNMP host on the remove device reports the values as negative values, ie, -90 dBm. However, check-snmp seems to be incapable of dealing with negative numbers as part of its threshold values. If I specify the values as part of a collection of OIDs, it accepts the syntax but converts the snmp value to positive, thus always generating a WARNING/CRITICAL result:

If I run it with a single OID, it gives me an error that the format is incorrect:

edit: if I use -w=range it parses properly but still converts the value to positive.

And if I run it with no thresholds defined, it works properly and returns the right value. This makes the graphs correct, however it'll never generate a notification when out of range:

What am I doing wrong here? How would I, for example, generate a CRITICAL when the noise floor is -80 dBm or higher, a WARNING when it's -85 to -80 dBm, and an OK when -85 dBm or lower? Do I have to write my own SNMP plugins when dealing with negative values?

I'm running opsview (nagios) and 1 slave server doesn't execute some plugins correctly

Return code of 127 is out of bounds - plugin may be missing

when I execute the plugin manually it says

./check_icmp
bash: ./check_icmp: No such file or directory

on the master and other slaves it's working when executing the plugins

I have been googling and trying stuff for days now but can't get it working

We run a system designed to integrate with Microsoft SQL Server, in a clustered setup. Currently we have both database nodes monitored under Nagios, and everything's fine except the database host check:

check_tcp -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -p 1433

Probably, one can't monitor a failover cluster directly like this. How should I monitor the cluster's database availability instead?
