Why doesn't my server doesn't recognise more than 4GB RAM even with Physical Address Extensions under Windows Server 2003 SP2? I thought PAE should enable the server to use more RAM than 4GB but having upgraded the machine so it has 7GB RAM, Windows only sees 4GB of it. The RAM modules are all recognised by the server administrator software (2 x 2GB, 2 x 1GB and 2 x 512MB). Is there anything I can do to get it to 'see' the extra 3GB?

First off I am a programmer I am just investigating this and making sure I have my facts straight.
We are getting some memory issues on a terminal server when a few people load a program that uses quite a lot of memory (but not out of the ordinary). I looked in task manager and the memory shown is only 3325MB physical. I guess limited by the 4GB 32 bit limit.
However I know this server has 16GB of memory and should have PAE enabled. Would I expect to be able to see the full 16GB of memory in task manager if PAE were enabled? Or does the way PAE works mean it will still only show 4GB but actually use 16GB.
I want to make sure I have this correct before proceeding. This is a Windows Server 2008 32 bit terminal server, I hope they will move it to 64 bit anyway at some point.
What's the command to find out if PAE is enabled ?

We have recently upgraded from 4GB RAM to 8GB. When we did this the time of our mysqldump overnight backup jumped from under 10 minutes to over 2 hours. It also caused unresponsiveness on our plone based web site due to database load. The dump is using the optimized mysqldump format and is spooled directly through a socket to another server.
Any ideas on what we could do to fix gratefully appreciated. Would a MySQL upgrade help? Anything we can do to MySQL config? Anything we can do to Linux config? Or do we have to add another server or go to 64-bit?
We ran a previous (non-virtual) server on 6GB PAE and didn't notice a similar issue. This was on same MySQL version, but Centos 4.4.

Will I benefit from the 32-bit PAE-enabled Linux kernel over the 32-bit non-PAE kernel in a server that has exactly 4GB of ram (and 'pae' in the cpuid flags)? Will the system be able to use all 4GB of ram without a PAE kernel, or will some of the memory go idle?
