I am trying to understand the hardware specification of a motherboard (http://www.tyan.com/Motherboards_S7070_S7070WGM2NR)

Regarding Expansion slots for PCI-E, 

Expansion Slots PCI-E   
(1) PCI-E Gen3 x8 slot(#1,CPU1)/ 
(1) PCI-E Gen3 x16 slot(#2,CPU1) / 
(1) PCI-E Gen3 x16 slot(#4,CPU0)/ 
(1) PCI-E Gen3 x16 slot(#6,CPU0)

Why does each PCI-E slot seem to have some connections with CPU slots?

What does this mean here?

If this isn't the correct exchange for this question, please let me know. I found a PCIe slot which is described as

1 PCIe Gen3 x4 slot /x16 connector

I'm not sure what they mean by this. Is it simply that the slot has an x4 connection but is open-ended such that it can support an x16 card?

I have a PCIe (ver 2) linux system. I want to find out how many PCIe lanes were negotiated and are being used between my device and the host controller . (I do not know how many lanes my device supports or how many lanes the slot has)

What speed, number of pins (physical size) are PCIe x1 x4 x8 and x16?

Normally I would google to find a photo showing the various types of PCI Express cards and their max bandwidth. Now that serverfault exists, I thought I'd lazily check if anyone here already has a good concise photo they could post as an answer.
