I succesfully setup a HA SOFS storage cluster using Starwind on two nodes. Now I want to setup the HyperV failover part and need some input on how to implement this.
Do I need to add the two HyperV nodes in the storage cluster or do I need to create a seperate cluster for this?
If I need to add a seperate cluster, do I need two nics per server?
I am seeking recommendations for shared storage options to support ESXi HA cluster (note I'm NOT asking for product/brand/model recommendation - I know this is against the rules here). I am asking for technology recommendation.
The company I work for is a small business. At the moment, we have one HP DL380 G9 with DAS, with ESXi 6.0, running our custom developed application. We are now looking at how to achieve HA/FT using the most economical option. We need HA/FT because I'm the one-man-IT-team and I am often away traveling so manual failover/restore is not an option.
I understand we need minimum of 2 ESXi host (physical server) and shared storage to achieve HA/FT. This is, I think, where it gets interesting: even the cheapest entry level storage array out there is probably an overkill for us. Our storage capacity requirement is probably around 200GB, and we don't see that doubling for at least 5 years. Yet, we need the shared storage for HA/FT.
Thus would really really appreciate any recommendation on my options. Thanks.
Ive got two servers with a shared glusterfs disk, both running dovecot and serving mail from this shared disk. Users read mail only from one of these servers but mail gets delivered to both. Occasionally I get problems when accessing the inbox maildir folder:
IMAP(user): open(/home/user/Maildir/dovecot-uidlist) failed: Permission denied
The user cant open the inbox. Accessing other folders works fine. If I delete the dovecot index files and restart dovecot everything works fine.
What can I do to make this setup more reliable?
My dovecot settings on both servers:
mmap_disable = no
dotlock_use_excl = yes
mail_nfs_storage = yes
mail_nfs_index = no
If all else fails I could create a bash script to clean up dovecot index files if there are errors in the logs...
Can anyone advice for a production-level, open-source shared storage (SAN) file-system?
I read about GFS and GFS2, but the first one seems a bit outdated, and the second is not considered stable for production.
Are there others I can check into?
What storage connection method should one prefer to use for connecting ESX servers to a shared storage server with 10GbE links?
Speficically, I have 2 ESX servers for VMware ESX and one server for shared storage.
The storage server is 2 x Xeon E5504 2GHz, 24GB RAM, 12xSSD + 12xSATA and battery backed RAID. The ESX servers are much the same but with 2 small SAS drives.
All servers have 10GbE adapters connected like so:
I have a licence for ESX 3.5 but for testing purposes I am currently running ESXi 4.1. The storage server runs Windows 7 for testing purposes.
I am aware about at least 3 methods:
1. ISCSI
2. NFS
3. FCoE
Which one would you recommend to choose and why?
