Ubuntu 11.10

Everything worked when I first setup statsd and graphite. Once I rebooted, it no longer works, which makes me think something about graphite or carbon needs to be started.

Now that I've rebooted, I go to a terminal and type

node stats.js dConfig.js

And statsd sayd "server is up". I have dumpMessages = true, so I see all of the messages hitting the statsd server.

Graphite is on the same machine so dConfig.js has 127.0.0.1. dConfig.js also has port 2003 for graphite. I don't think I changed the port from 2003, but where do I find that?

The problem is, I cannot see any of the stats in the graphite console. I can nav to http:/127.0.0.1/ and see the graphite console. I even see old counters and timers. But I do not see any new data in the graph.

An example msg to statsd is:

slolife.TimingTest:198|ms

So in graphite, I look for slolife / TimingTests, but cannot find that stat/folder.

What do I need to start or check to get the data to show in Graphite?

Is there a manual/datasheet/some other resource that explains what do all these counters in ethtool -S <interface> mean? Some of them are self-explainatory, some aren't...

I'm taking them from e1000e source code (ethtool.c).

EDIT: just found and looking at this document, seems to be useful (p.271 - register descriptions, with links to explanation). Still, I'd welcome your insight.

My hosting company provides "Load Average" stats when I login. There is no link to more information about them, and no explanation as to what they mean. I'm guessing they are a percentage, but I have no clue why there are three numbers, or what the percentage is actually out of (processor, memory, bandwidth, combination?), and is that this instant or over time? Is this a standard statistic that I should know about?

What are high / low / normal numbers?

Perhaps someone can shed some light on this for me.

Load Averages: 0.60 0.60 0.55

I've got two servers with IIS 6 and I have to set up a statistics report for the website that is hosted in both servers. load balanced. Tried AW Stats but it is a pain. I'm using SmarterSTATS now , it sounds good. But it's like the servers logs are not producing numbers that this service could understand. Confused. N00b. Complete n00b

I'm looking for a way to pull data from my Rackspace Cloud SITES account. The data I want to pull is bandwidth, diskspace, and compute cycles (all available from control panel). I'd like to set up my own warning system, to be notified if I'm close to my limits on any given month.

Does anyone know of a way/API to do this?
