In light of mounting allegations that TeamViewer has been hacked, and that criminals are somehow gaining unauthorized access to TeamView-enabled workstations, we would like to block TeamViewer altogether.

How doe the TeamViewer session-establishment protocol work? What firewall rules or other measures can we use to prevent all workstations within our network from being controlled through TeamViewer?

We have a heterogeneous environment; controls would have to be done at the network level, and not through anything like a Group Policy.

I'd like to know who has logged in to my machine and when.

I have two TeamViewer log files: Connections_incoming.txt and TeamViewer7_Logfile.log.

The first one is quite plain and lists, as its name says, the incoming connections to the machine, reporting the local name of the remote host, login time, logout time, and some ids. e.g.:

173274362   MYLAPTOP    20-02-2012 17:32:16 20-02-2012 17:50:42 Master  RemoteControl   {C5AAE483-ED0B-54B8-9235-7AE597CAD342}

This is almost all what I need, but unfortunately no remote IP address is reported here, so I checked for IPs in TeamViewer7_Logfile.log but it is really messy. It indeed contains some IP addresses but I can't understand which one is bound with the items in the first log file.

Is there a way to interpolate the two logs to get what I need? Should I search the second file for some particular text? What do you suggest?

I have a Linux Computer that I want to connect via VPN to a Windows Computer, but I need it to be easy to connect like TeamViewer is. I need it to be real simple because I'm setting this up for someone that has to access a work network from their Linux machine but they aren't that tech savvy so anything complicated will just get them confused. I like how in TeamViewer you just have to type the ID and password and it'll connect. No other complicated processes it's just open, enter ID & password, and connect. Dead simple. Is their anything of equivalence for a Linux Computer to connect to Windows?

NOTE: An idea I had while writing this was to simply install TeamViewer in a normal Wine install with the latest Windows version since the Linux Version is just a Windows install run through a trimmed down Wine. Could this work for the VPN or is their no way to connect a Windows VPN through Wine?

I need to access some Linux server behind NAT (no ports forwarded), so I need to have something like "phone home" like Teamviewer has. There is no GUI, but somebody can log in through SSH and dictate a password if it is changing (like Teamviewer). SSH (port 22) is enough (I can tunnel ports through SSH if I need). Any suggestions? How safe is it?

How can you disable TeamViewer from using/reserving port 80? I am certain in the previous version <v4.1.6 there used to be a radio button option in "options" which disabled it from needing it, but now I cannot find it.

Is port 80 serisouly required by this remote desktop app? It is conflicting with IIS on our development server and becoming a real pain.
