I have setup a virtual server running MediaWiki (a TurnKey appliance). I have got the server up and running and have assigned it a static IP address on the local network.

I have also assigned the server a public IP address by setting up a DMZ host on the router. The router is a Draytek Vigor 2820.

I have tried using SSH/SFTP/FTP to access the server remotely but they all timeout. The turnkey appliance comes with Shell in a box as standard and that works fine.

I have checked the firewall using the webmin interface and port 22 is allowed.

Am I missing any vital steps?

Update:

The public ip address fails when I ping it from the remote location (any remote location) and a port test shows port 22 as closed. I presume this narrows the problem down to the router?

Now, it is my first time with Linux and a SAMBA File server. I am using the TurnKey Linux File Server Appliance.

I have installed it native on my new fileserver machine (an OLD Dell 670 Workstation 2GB RAM and 2TB x 4 SATA) I can access webshell, webmin, extplorer - all good, but :

My Scenario is, that I want to have the following Groups of users, namely (HR, EXEC, IT, Marketing, Sales, Production) ... I will then create users individually and add them to there respective groups.

for a test, i created a HR group and add our HR person to it, they can see the share listed when they connect from a windows machine but they can't create anything inside it.

I clicked on the option "synchronize UNIX user and samba user" and synchronize UNIX group and samba group as well.

Also, I have active directory, what is the real benefit of binding my file server to our Active Directory and how reliable is that ?

I installed Turnkey Linux http://www.turnkeylinux.org/revision-control to have a Git server. The installation went fine and I created a user to use with git. It comes with a preinstalled repo called "helloworld.git".

In order to test GIT, I did git clone git://192.168.56.101/git/helloworld.git and it cloned the repo just fine. I then went into the repo and made a change and did commited. Then I added the remote by doing git remote add [email protected]:helloworld.git

I then did a push and it asked for my password as expecting but then said helloworld.git does not appear to be a git repository

Am I not putting the right location for the remote repo? Also how do I go about creating my own repo on the server. I am fairly new at managing a GIT server. Thanks.

I setup a Turnkey Trac virtual machine and am trying to set up the LdapPlugin to use use authentication through a local Active Directory. I tried using

easy_install http://trac-hacks.org/svn/ldapplugin/

to install it and it claimed to have completed, however when I go to the Admin page and go to plugins, it is not listed. I have never setup a Turnkey server like this before and was wondering in which directory the Trac plugins are located on the Turnkey-linux machine?

Turnkey Linux distributes Linux virtual machines in a Xen compatible format. I have a XenServer instance running and I would like to run a recently downloaded Turnkey Linux virtual machine on it. But I have never used XenServer before.

Can you point me a tutorial specific for this case, since the manual doesn't seem to cover it very well?
