What I want to do is the following:
My domain xy.example.com no longer exists. Thus I want to do a simple redirect to the new domain abc.example.com. It should be a redirect, that also works when someone types in the browser bar http://xy.example.com/team.php - than it shoul redirect to http://abc.example.com/team.php
I've already tried a few things, but it didn't really work. What do I have to put in the Apache 2 config?
URLs always have this format:
<protocol>://<host>[:<port>]/[<path>][#<hash>]
The problem is that IPv6 uses colons, just like the separator of port and host, e.g:
2001:db8:1f70::999:de8:7648:6e8
But what if this is the host, and I want to connect to it with HTTP on port 100?
http://2001:db8:1f70::999:de8:7648:6e8:100/
The problem is the last colon. Since zero's are omitted with double colons (between 1f70 and 999), it's unknown if ':100' belongs to the IP or the port number. How can we know this?
Can data included in a URL be considered secure if the connection is made over HTTPS? For example, if a user clicks a link in an email that points to https://mysite.com?mysecretstring=1234 would it be possible for an attacker to grab "mysecretstring" from the URL?
Other than for historical reasons, is there is reason to have “www” in a URL?
Should I create a permanent redirect from www.xyz.com to xyz.com, or from xyz.com to www.xyz.com? Which one would you suggest and why?
Is it okay to use app.mycoolname.local for URLs that are private / internal?
We have several applications that are web based, but they are private apps and are not exposed to the public.
We have been using ".net" for some of these, which doesn't make sense since they could collied with a real URL on the internet. That hasn't been a problem yet.
But now I have a new group of applications and I want to name them using a "popular" name that will definatly collide with a URL on the internet.
Should I use app.mycoolname.local? I have it set up this way right now, and it seems to be working. I have read a few places where it was encouraged, but then I saw a few places where it wasn't working (some problem on Mac, but we don't have those, so NBD).
