I'm familiar with all the standard Cisco shapes to depict various types of switches and routers. I've also come up with a pretty good shape to show encryption devices. I'm having a hard time trying to come up with something that would show a media converter (Ethernet to fiber and vice versa) on my network drawings using Visio. Do anyone know of a standard shape that's used?
Their website says they can be found here:
http://www.netgear.com/Home/Landing/en-US/WW_VisioStencils.aspx
But in reality that simply redirects to their home page (excellent site management Netgear!).
Specifically I'm looking for stencils for the ProSafe FS108 and FS116 switches.
Thanks in advance!
I work for a organization which runs several servers mainly used for internet to schools and Exchange on the corporate side.
One of my tasks during my training is to be able to understand the network and how it works.
Now I don't need to understand absolutely everything but I would like to map out the network in Visio to see how it connects together via a visual perspective.
We have 1 core room which holds the main servers and switches for http/mail/voice/storage etc. which are connected to several switches in other "sub" rooms which then connect that section of the building, i.e 1 Hop.
So my task is to be able to track all the connections leading from the main server room going to the sub switch rooms, so we know what connection does what.
Do you guys have any idea of how to get started with this task, how to go about it, etc.
I'm not 100% guru with Servers as I'm just a MA - Technician and will need to learn how the servers interact with switches and how it all comes together.
I'm looking to the community to see how people are drawing their networks, i.e. using symbols to represent complex topology. You can have hardware approach, where every hardware unit are represented. You can also have "entity" approach, where each "service" is shown. Both are interesting but it is difficult to have both on the same schema (but this is needed, especially using virtualization environment). Furthermore, it is difficult to have complex informations on such representation. For instance security parameters (encrypted link, need for authentication) or specific details (protocol type, ports, encapsulation).
So my question is: where your are drawing a representation of your network, what is your approach? Are you using methodology and/or specific softwares? What is your recommendations for information to put (or not)? How to deal with the complexity when the network becomes large and/or you want to put a lot of information on it?
I need to diagram some of my racks with Visio. The tutorials on the web say to use File :: New :: Network :: Rack ... But under network I only have 'Basic network Diagram'. I can find some of the shapes by searching for the rack, but not sure how to load a library that has all of them. Anyone know where I go to get that stuff?
