The title is self explanatory. I had to remove the /generalize option when going from my sysprep to OOBE but that has now broken my copy profile.
I have read multiple places, that /generalize is needed for the copy profile and I cannot do this manually as the button to copy profile (in audit mode) is grayed out [to copy the profile ]..
Can I still perform the without the /Generalize when changing from my audit to OOBE?
If I need to script this - its okay.
I know this is a particularly difficult thing to troubleshoot as there are various complexities in the setup, but wondering if anyone has experienced this and can recognise the issue / offer some steps to troubleshoot.
Firstl, is WAIK required before you can use WDS for a capture?
I'm running virtualbox on a macbook pro.
Setup:
Server 2008 Roles: DHCP, Active Directory, DC, WDS
Windows 7 - receives DHCP from the PDC and receives DHCP upon PXE Boot
Both VMs have bridged adapters.
I have added windows 7 install and boot images and gone through the process of creating a Capture Image in preparation for the PXE Boot to capture the installed OS.
My Windows 7 virtualbox is set to network boot, it runs through the PXE Boot obtains DHCP but then states "No filename" and continues to boot off the hard disk.
Hope I have included all the information you will need to know! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am new to WAIK, and am trying to figure out how to build a WIM image from the Windows 2008 R2 ISO media.
So far I have been unsuccessful in finding this information.
Is this possible, and if so, what am I missing from the TechNet documentation?
I have seen many tutorials showing how to use WAIK to create a Windows 7 inane for deploying to many machines. I have also seen tutorials about using MDT 2010. Which is a better way to use and why?
I will be looking to deploy applications as well. Also I want most, if not all of the deploys, to use the windows.old folder to store the old windows in. Is there a way I can deploy XP using these tools as well?

On step 4 (Capturing the Installation onto a Network Share), I run into a bit of a snag: attempting to connect to a network drive repeatedly fails. I'm using/deploying Dell Optiplex 380 64 bit machines, and the network cards seem to be really wonky. On the machine that I'm using to run AIK etc, the network driver wasn't found automatically. I had to manually go in and install the driver (which was found on the OEM installation media). I've since copied this to the USB key that I'm using for the Autounattend.xml so its handy.
I think that because of this, the PE environment doesn't or can't instantiate the network device.
Is there a way to install/configure the network device through the command prompt in PE? If not, I read about adding in the answer file path(s) to drivers, but if I did it this way, would I have to start the process all over again (i.e. create new Autounattend.xml with the PnPcustomizations path included, re-run the installation on the reference machine, install all the applications, re-make the PE iso, reboot into new PE iso)?
Any shortcuts, direction, or advice would be appreciated.
