I'm currently backing up a server and the data on the shares it hosts to a single 8TB drive (its not the only backup copy). Because of the single drive dependency, running low on capacity and 8TB being the maximum size currently commercially available for the general market as a single drive, I was going to run 4x USB 3 drives to create a pool as a parity storage space and continue backing up data to that, to provide more capacity and a little bit of redundancy.

My question is does the Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Server Backup component support this? I've never tried a server backup with anything but a single drive before. Because this is the 2012 R2 Essentials version, server backup is configured via the Dashboard app, so I was wanting to know if it was supported?

I have scheduled backup and every day copies of:

• bare metal recovery
• system state
• system reserved
• local disk C:\

Backup is stored on iscsi disk. On local disk C are databases mdf with logs. In theory can I restore databases from full windows server backup if there is something wrong with SQL server generated backup of databases like mydatabase.bak ?

I am trying to create a scheduled backup on a Server 2008 R2 box (using the built-in Windows Server Backup UI). Whenever I run a backup manually (image or otherwise), it works perfectly. When I try to schedule the same backup I get all the way to the end and it pops up an error saying:

Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password

I'm copying to a network drive via a UNC path, but I've confirmed the user/pass I'm entering there are correct (if entered wrong it immediately prompts again). Once this error pops up, I hit OK and the status just says "The backup schedule was not created."

As a final note, this had been tried under both the built-in administrator account and a separate admin account. It's a standalone box (no domain) and both accounts I've tried under are part of the local Administrators group.

I have created a Task Scheduler event that emails me on EventID 14 in the Microsoft-Windows-Backup event log (note this is a new , style (Vista and up) log. I exported this and after some grubbing around on Serverfault and Technet, including this question

I got to the point of the XML for my task triggers being:

Unfortunately, this produces an error (a Launch Failiure on the Action). The very similar:

Works fine and emails me the "BackupTemplateID" value.

I assume this is because the contents of "ComponentStatus" is itself XML but is not part of the Task Scheduler schema.

Does anyone know any way around this? Another method of getting the data is fine if this is not possible.

I would like this because the ComponentStatus section records if backup had a problem backing up Exchange as an Application, when the Event Description only indicates that the backup completed sucessfully.

Is it possible to restore Hyper-V virtual machine (just one of 4) using Windows Server Backup (if it was backed up first)? Or is there no way to do individual and every time one machines goes bad full recovery of Hyper-V is required? I've read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958662/en-us but I do hope that at least some of those things are possible to workaround.
