How can enable and load mod_proxy_http?

I have XAMPP, and I want to enable mod_proxy_http

I can see the module XAMPP/apache/modules/mod_proxy_http.so but I don't see any commanted module directives to uncomment in file XAMPP/apahce/conf/httpd.comf

I have restarted the server and I see the module has not loaded through phpinfo()

How can enable and load mod_proxy_http?

I just did a fresh install of XAMPP. When first opening PHPMyAdmin I noticed it was extremely slow. It didn't make sense that on localhost it should take almost 5 seconds for every page to open. I made a small test case to shift the blame off PHPMyAdmin:

$con = new PDO("mysql:host=localhost;dbname=mysql", "root", "");
$statement = $con->query('SELECT host,user,password FROM user;');
$users = $statement->fetchAll(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);

The above script takes just about 3 seconds to run (although it took closer to 8 seconds to load the first time I ran it.)

Then to check if it was PDO's fault I tried using mysql_connect instead:

$con = mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "");
mysql_select_db("mysql", $con);
$result = mysql_query('SELECT host,user,password FROM user;');

Takes exactly as long to finish.

I thought it was PHP's fault at first, but PHP code and static files are served snappier than I can click refresh. I tested PHP by running this little script:

header("Content-Type: text/plain");

for($i = 0; $i < 5000; $i++)
{
    echo sha1(rand()) . "\n";
}

5000 sha1 calculations and the page is still displayed snappier than I can refresh my window.

Then I figured it was MySQL's fault. But again, didn't take much testing to figure out that MySQL is working faster than I need it to. Using the MySQL CLI client the user select query doesn't even take measurable time - it's done before I've even let the return key up.

The issue must be PHP's connection to MySQL - that's as far as I've been able to reason. I can find tons of stuff about PHP being slow or MySQL being slow, but nothing about PHP+MySQL being extremely slow.

I'm using XAMPP 1.8.0 for win32 (Download link)
PHP version: 5.4.4
MySQL version: 14.14

EDIT: After timing, it turns out it's the connect function that's taking so long:

$time = microtime(true);

$con = mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "");
mysql_select_db("mysql", $con);

$con_time = microtime(true);

$result = mysql_query('SELECT host,user,password FROM user;');

$sel_time = microtime(true);

printf("Connect time: %f\nQuery time: %f\n",
       $con_time-$time,
       $sel_time-$con_time);

Output:

Connect time: 1.006148
Query time: 0.000247

What can cause PHP to spend do much time connecting to the database? The CLI client, HeidiSQL and MySQL workbench connect instantly

I'm trying to add a conditional statement using Apache's If directive in my .htaccess file.

I have referenced this page http://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/mod/core.html#if but it doesn't elaborate much / give many examples. Two incomplete examples it gives are:

<If %{REQUEST_METHOD} IN GET,HEAD,OPTIONS>

and

<If "$req{Host} = ''">

So I've tried to add this to my .htaccess file:

<If %{SERVER_PORT} IN GET,HEAD,OPTIONS>
   #nothing here yet
</If>

But I keep getting Error 500 when I try and load the page. This is on my local install, and it was working fine previously (or if I remove that code). I believe I have AllowOverride All set up globally, and the context for the If directive should let it be present in .htaccess ("Context: server config, virtual host, directory, .htaccess").

Can someone give me some examples of how to properly use the <If> directive, or some guidance as to why it is not working for me?

I'm trying to setup my local Apache configuration like so:

http://localhost/ should serve ~/

http://development.somedomain.co.nz/ should serve ~/sites/development.somedomain.co.nz/

https://development.assldomain.co.nz/ should serve ~/sites/development.assldomain.co.nz/

I only want to allow connections from our local network (192.168.1.* range) and myself (127.0.0.1).

I have setup my hosts file with:

The problem is when I request http://development.anunuseddomain.co.nz/ or http://development.assldomain.co.nz/ it responds with the same as http://development.somedomain.co.nz/

I want it to deny all requests that do not match a virtual host server name and all requests to a https host that are requested with http

PS I'm running XAMPP on Mac OS X 10.5.8

I'm using xampp and navicat to manage mysql on two dev machines (laptop & desktop). The laptop is my main machine, while the desktop acts as a local dev server for the group.

Connecting to mysql via localhost in navicat is working fine on the laptop. Is there a way (other than the http tunneling method) to allow access to the desktop from the laptop via navicat?
