Two debian machines

Debian 10 Kali Linux 2020 rolling

lak:~# sudo ssh -XC [email protected]

works to forward specific programs like firefox, nautilus

connected via ethernet lan

Things noticed

• Nautilus works with only a slight lag compared to local desktop x display of nautilus,

• Firefox lags so user can not enter settings, unsuably slow response, hangs on X ing out of browser window.

• GNUcash works perfectly - no lag no problems closing or 'X-ing' out

• using the ssh -C switch for compression but that does not help.

• two network cards on both machines so both machines can apt-get update while also connected by ssh on separate eth0 card. so both machines have tested internet connection

Any suggestions to make programs like firefox usable through ssh forwarding?

My requirement is a little different from this one in that I would like to launch a window manager for each of two non-root users upon boot.

For testing, first I prepare the following lines in .xinitrc and/or .xsession in home directories of user2 and user3 like so:

#!/bin/sh
exec icewm

Then I manually login to virtual console as user2 or user3 or open an xterm window and type this command:

xinit -- /usr/bin/Xvfb :3 -cc 4 -screen 0 1024x768x16

This does the job - icewm and Xvfb run behind the scene.

Now I want to automate the login and command xinit on boot. However none of the following approaches work:

Either manually type these two commands as root or place them in /etc/rc.local:

su -l user2 -c xinit -- /usr/bin/Xvfb :3 -cc 4 -screen 0 1024x768x16

No protocol specified
IceWM: Can't open display: :0. X must be running and $DISPLAY set.

start-stop-daemon --start -u user2 -g user2 -b --pidfile /tmp/pid --exec /usr/bin/xinit -- -- Xvfb :3
ps ax

File /home/user2/.xsession:

Issue this command as root:

su -l user2 -c /usr/bin/startx -- /usr/bin/Xvfb :3 &

I get this:

hostname: Name or service not known
xauth: (stdin):1:  bad display name "example.com:2" in "add" command

IceWM: Can't open display: localhost:3. X must be running and $DISPLAY set.
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error
xauth: (argv):1:  bad display name "example.com:2" in "remove" command

Any idea? Please!

We get the following Coldfusion error message after our server have been running for a couple of weeks:

Error Executing Database Query.Could not create connection to database server. Attempted reconnect 3 times

We run Coldfusion Enterprise 9 on a one year old XServer with Snow Leopard and MySQL 5 The server has about ten DSN set up in the Coldfusion Administrator All local, with default advanced settings, and host set to "localhost" The server is not under heavy load.

The strange thing is that after a restart of the server, everything works fine. Then after a week or so, some databases will stop working, in the sense that Coldfusion cannot create a connection to them. If I then go to the Coldfusion Administrator and click "Verify all datasources", I will get that only 2 or 3 got verified, the other ones failed, and it is always the same datasources that can't be verified when the server starts to behave like this if I try to verify again, BUT NOT neccessary the same datasources that couldn't be verified the last time the server behaved like this.

I know about the setting "max_connections" and we have included a line for that setting in the MySQL config file and set it to 2000, and when we read it by a query it says "2000", so that can't be the problem.

Anyone?

I have a Shell script on a server. The script is run by a particular user, not root.

The script has the following:

export DISPLAY=:8
Xorg $DISPLAY

But there is an error:

Fatal server error: PAM authentication failed, cannot start X server. Perhaps you do not have console ownership?

Can anyone guide me on how to fix this? I've been Googling but there are numerous different answers so I need a bit of guidance.

Edit: I have found this (enter link description here) which suggests changing the /etc/pam.d/xserver file but I don't really know if that's the right thing to do?

After upgrade from lenny to wheezy keyboard and mouse don't work in X (keyboard available before it starts). I looked over internet about this issue and found some solutions:

1. remove xorg.conf (http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=62880)
2. update udev and base-files (http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=64927&p=376136#p376136)
3. remove /run directory (http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=64927&p=376136#p376136)
4. reintall xserver and xorg

But, nothing helped me :( Logs of X-server haven't got any messages about keyboard or mouse errors.
