I am trying to log in to a centos 6.8 server and I have the ip address and correct password. It stored the private key in my known_hosts file, but then I forgot about. My colleague can login from his computer, he has the private key in the id_rsa.pub file which he sent to me. When I stored it, I still could not log in. I since deleted that file, but I still cannot login and I can't make sense of this error log below, please help.

You need to get your colleague to add the contents of your
~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
(which is your public key) to your~/.ssh/authorized_keys
on the server (or/etc/sshd/authorized_keys
if you're using root login).Your private key (
id_rsa
) should never leave your machine. If you deleted or overwrote your
~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
or~/.ssh/id_rsa
, generate a new one by runningssh-keygen
.id_rsa.pub
usually store public key. May be you should request private key from your colleague, which stored inid_rsa
file.Update: As metioned by @sengi, don't share private keys. Get your colleague to add your public key to authorized_keys on the server.
