I have a customer who is looking to implement autocad on their network. Now they want to have a server which houses all the files, which each file can range anywhere from 5GB to 100GB, now i'm not sure what to recommend as far as networking is concerned, i wanted to put in a 3750 and run cat6 through out the office, and each pc including the server will have enterprise ssd drives, does any one have any recommendations with this type of setup or should i even look into running fiber through the office which really looks like overkill for this, but not sure.
Small network of perhaps half a dozen engineers, currently working on local copies of AutoCAD project files, which are then copied back up to file server (2008 Standard, 1-2 year old Dell server hardware, RAID 5 SAS disks (10k? not positive)) at end of day.
To me, this sounds horribly inefficient and error-prone, however, I've been told that "AutoCAD and network files = bad idea" and this is gospel.
The network is currently 10/100 (perhaps this is the reason for the "gospel") but all the workstations are within 2 years old and have GbE NICs so an upgrade of the core switch is long overdue. However, I know certain applications don't like network access, at all, and any sign of latency or disruption brings the whole thing crashing down.
Anyone care to chime in?
I'm looking to move my client's file server, mail, and AutoCad files to the cloud. They currently use public folders to organize and share the CAD drawings. What would be the best solution? Gmail for business or hosted exchange? Should I be using Sharepoint to organize and share the AutoCad drawings or will Google Docs work?
I am trying to deploy Autodesk suite through MDT. I have my packages. They are packaged as exe files with some switches.
The Problem is when I try to deploy them Autocad starts to install and revit trys to go before it has finished then Inventor does the same thing.
On my final status page of MDT i have three errors which are the Autodesk packages. The first package ends up installing correctly however MDT detects that it failed because it is still running when the deployment ends.
The other 2 packages (revit and inventor) show up with the msi error that another application is running (this is expected because there IS another application running) So why doesnt MDT see that?
Is there something I can do to recitfy this? Perhaps have a script that runs and tells the apps to wait if setup is running or something?
Or is it possible to pause MDT till the app installs. Any Ideas would be great. Thanks
We have a few users who cannot plot from AutoCAD to any of our OCE TCS500s. The programs affected are AutoCAD 2008/9, LT 2008 and Trueview 2009.
When selecting the a TCS500 plotter in ACAD, on 2009 it resets to None without any alert, but on 2008 it throws up the following:
The plotter configuration cannot be used for one of these reasons: the driver cannot be found, or the driver has a problem. The None plot device has been substituted.
We've tried re-installing the plotters from the server, installing the plotters locally, updating the drivers, downgrading the drivers, repairing AutoCAD, all with brief or no success.
The main thing I cannot work out is it an issue with the drivers or the software, as we have nearly 100+ users with no issues at all, using the same programs and as far as I know the same drivers.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
