I have two users experiencing this problem and I've gone through all the possible fixes I can find with no luck. I'm hoping someone has another idea. Here is the info to clarify the problem.

2 users recently got new laptops (Windows 7) and both noticed the problem only after getting the new laptops.

When they remote desktop to any servers on our network, the copy/paste clipboard functionality won't work between the local and remote session, but only sporadically. Sometimes it will actually work.

When using a remote desktop connection to something outside our network, the clipboard functionality works fine.

Here's what I've tried:

• restarting rdpclip on the remote session
• checking that the clipboard is selected and local drives are selected in the RDP options under local resources
• server side is fine as other users have no problem with clipboard functionality on these same servers
• New laptops for these users are in the same AD organizational unit as the rest of our office

Any Ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

When our customers have a problem we usually connect to their server in order to investigate. Normally we use Remote Desktop or VNC for this. During this investigation I usually copy text between the server and my computer several times.

For one new customer we are using Remote Desktop and Citrix. The customer has disabled clipboard sharing "for security reasons". This will make supporting them rather difficult. (I don't just want to copy the odd word - usually it's large XML documents.)

I want to persuade them to enable clipboard sharing because it will mean we will be able to resolve problems for them much faster and without becoming extremely frustrated. I work better when I am not frustrated!

Is clipboard sharing over RDP insecure? We're allowed to transfer files to and from. Surely that's less secure than transferring text.

What can say to our customer to get them to enable it?

Remote Desktop allows you to share the clipboard. It even allows you to copy files through a copy and paste mechanism. However, remote assistance does not seem to allow you to do this. Microsoft has made many changes to remote assistance to simplify establishing the connection, however, once connected, I can't even copy and paste text.

Is there any way to fix this?

I am attempting to copy/paste files between Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 across a Remote Desktop connection (in the same domain, if it matters), but I am unable to successfully do so.

I have followed instructions to enable clipboard sharing on the Windows Server 2003 machine by enabling the Network DDE, Network DDE DSDM, and ClipBook Windows services; also, I have ensured that the "Clipboard" option on the "Local Resources" tab of Windows RDP client is checked, but this does not appear to be doing the trick. The the remote desktop has been rebooted and the clipboard sharing services started without any errors.

Is there something I'm missing?

This is similar to at least one other question here, but I was unable to find a solution that worked.
