I have an issue with the Vim color schemes: The background color does not fill the whole screen. For example, in the "blue" color scheme the whole screen should turn blue. Instead, the blue background only extends to the end of each line. Is this a setting in the console I'm missing or is this an issue with my vim default settings?

I'm only having this issue with Ubuntu 10.10. echo $TERM outputs xterm-color.

[Update]: To eliminate error sources my minimal ~/.vimrc looks like this:

filetype plugin on
colorscheme blue
syntax on

/etc/vim/vimrc contains the unchanged defaults of Ubuntu

In a Bash script, I use "screen -L" to log executed commands in color. For example:

screen -L tree

Then we read the logfile with less -R.

When this script is executed, other screens are potentially running so we don't know which screenlog.* contains our output. I can't demand the user to customize his/her .screenrc.

Is there a way to specify a log name on command line or to read specific .screenrc commands?

Is it possible to 'colorize' the output from find?

I have a find that searches /home on all of my servers, and exec 'rm' certain files. As these are mixed in with my other find results, among other things, I'd like to colorize them.

Is this possible?

What is the simplest way to enable ANSI escape codes (eg. colored output) in Windows cmd?

I know many programs use color - (vim, ack, color-ls to name a few) but there are still many cases where you're stuck with black and white.

There are scripts that will color output based on regular expressions (i.e. "make anything that matches 'dog' red") but these must be invoked with pipes - for example: "> cat myfile | color dog red" and this is useless for anything interactive.

What I'm looking for is something that hooks the terminal emulator (or an terminal that actually does this) and colors anything that matches a given regex, independent of the shell or program i'm currently using. If this works with ncurses as well that would be awesome. I have too many monochrome programs and it would be great if I could specify a list of keywords to highlight/color when they appear or are typed.

I use Guake console which probably uses GNOME Terminal, I don't know if GNOME has this feature already.
