Questions[directory-listing](server)

I searched a lot and everyone says add these in config file and it will work:

location /my_directory {
    autoindex on;
}

I opened /etc/nginx/nginx.conf file and added it under http but service did not start. Added it under http -> server and received 403 forbidden error.

I have no idea about nginx. Can someone tell me easily about what should I do?

I've Googled around for this to no avail, I'm sure its just something simple but I have not been able to figure this out perhaps because searching in Google or SF for a "-" can be problematic.

I had a strange directory listing show up the other day in my git repository within Drupal. Listing my sites directory looks like this:

This "-" file cannot be opened and does not appear to be a symlink, although when I execute "cd -" I get this:

-sh-4.1$ cd -
/home/sites/dev1.(hide).com

That is coincidentally or not the users home directory, and the site's root directory. The other strange this is this entry does not show up for any other user browsing this same directory. Nor does it show up for other users period in their Git directories. The entry cannot be removed via RM.

Running Centos 6.2 by the way...

I have problem with my ProFTPD server.

When I try to connect to the server using TLS then I get timeout after MLSD command. It only happens whenI use TLS - without it it works perfectly.

I checked these logs:

proftpd.log - USER xxx: Login successful.

tls.log - TLSv1/SSLv3 connection accepted ... Protection set to Private

Where could be problem please? I can provide more informations, just ask for them in comments.

EDIT: Today I tried to set INPUT policy of iptables to ALLOW ... everything worked ... so issue is a firewall. How should I set iptables to work with FTPS ?

How can I configure Apache to list files in a directory even if an index file is present?

For example, if I have a directory /var/foo that contains a number of files, and one of those is a directory index (index.html, index.php, etc.), how can I make Apache show the directory listing instead of displaying the contents of index.html, when a user browses to http://example.com/foo/?

# Directory listing for /var/foo/, mapped to http://example.com/foo/
..
.
code.c
readme.pdf
index.html

I have used the following but I would imagine there's a better way:

Options +Indexes +MultiViews
DirectoryIndex will-never-exist.xyz

How do I make a directory listing in apache show the ./hidden files? I tried both

    <Directory /var/www/*>
            Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
            AllowOverride None
            Order allow,deny
            allow from all
    </Directory>

and

    <Directory /var/www/>
            Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
            AllowOverride None
            Order allow,deny
            allow from all
    </Directory>

but neither show the hidden files
