With FUSE it is possible to mount many things purely as a non privileged user. However, it seems that for webdav davfs2 is the preferred project, which appears to be a filesystem driver and uses the standard mount/umount which requires privileges.

Is there a way to use this (or another library) to mount webdav only as a user via fuse ? (i.e. so each user could mount a different webdav on a different server, without needing to configure anything in fstab etc).

I use SSHFS to mount a directory on a remote server. There is a user xxx on client and server. UID and GID are identical on both boxes.

I use 

sshfs -o kernel_cache -o auto_cache -o reconnect -o compression=no \ 
      -o cache_timeout=600 -o ServerAliveInterval=15 \
      [email protected]:/mnt/content /home/xxx/path_to/content

to mount the directory on the remote server. When I log in as xxx on the client I have no problems. I can cd into /home/xxx/path_to/content.

But when I log in on the client as another user zzz and then

$ ls -l /home/xxx/path_to

I get this

d?????????   ? ?    ?        ?                ? content

and on

$ ls -l /home/xxx/path_to/content

I get

ls: cannot access content: Permission denied

When I do

$ ls -l /mnt

on the remote server I get

drwxr-xr-x 6 xxx xxx  4096 2011-07-25 12:51 content

What am I doing wrong? The permissions seem to be correct to me. Am I wrong?

I'm using s3fs 1.33 on Ubuntu 9.10 x86.

I mount it manually with this command:

sudo /usr/bin/s3fs mybucket /mnt/s3/mybucket -ouse_cache=/tmp

How can I force the mount on boot?

I guess that I have to write something to /etc/fstab. But what? And how do I test it without rebooting the server?

I'm thinking of using ZFS for my home-made NAS array. I would have 4 HDDs in raidz on a Ubuntu Server 10.04 machine.

I'd like to use the snapshot capability and dedup when storing data. I'm not so much concerned about the speed, since the machine is accessed via N wireless network and that is probably going to be the bottleneck.

So does anyone have any practical experience with zfs-fuse 0.6.9 on such (or simillar) configuration?

I'm using SSHFS mounts from my laptop to a central server.

Obviously, the SSHFS mount is broken after a longer disconnect (eg. during suspend), cause the underlying SSH connection timed out.

Is there a way to get SSHFS mounts surviving long lasting disconnections (> 5 min) or even a re-dialin with a different IP?
