I need to add some RAM to a machine running HP-UX.

Is there anything that I need to do before or after adding the physical RAM? Or will the OS just recognize the RAM and no further tasks needed.

I've never worked with HP-UX before, so I just need to know if there is anything with the OS that I need to do to before, or after adding the physical memory.

I'm working on a HP-UX system and I want to find if there are any circular symbolic links.

So far I'm using the command:

ls -lrt  `find ./ -follow -type l`

But it's only doing ls -lrt on current directory as result.

What command should I use to find all circular symbolic links in a system?

I'm looking to transfer data across 2 lv of an HP-UX server. I have a couple of those transfers to do, some of which are mostly binary (Oracle tablespace...) and some others are more text files (logs...). Used data size of the volumes is between 100Gb and 1Tb. Also, I will be changing the block size from 1K to 8K on some of these partitions...

Things I'm looking for:

  • Guarantees data integrity
  • Fastest data transfer speed
  • Keeps file ownership and permissions

Right now, I've thought about dd, cp and rsync, but I'm not sure on the best one to use and the best way to use them...

I want to know if a HP-UX machine can communicate to a remote machine (which I don't have control over) on a particular port using UDP.

I tried telnet, but it doesn't look like it supports UDP. I would use netcat, but I was unable to find any bundle. This machine is in production so I don't want to mess around compliling or installing things too much... (nmap, netcat from source...)

Any simple way to do this?

I'm looking for a way to run HP-UX (for educational purposes), but I don't have HP hardware right now.

These options are not very suitable for me:

  • HP TestDrive program - Looks like it was discontinued 2 years ago.
  • Ski - looks like only CPU emulator. Is it worth trying?
  • HPPAQEMU - Patch for old Qemu for HPPA-Linux guest-OS only. Is it worth trying?
  • hp-ux Aires - I don't need to visualize HP-PA on HP-Itanium. That question is about using HP-UX without HP hardware.

A year ago I was working as a system integrator at TTI Telecom and now I'm (self-|un)employed and don't want to look for job right now because of institute graduation. TTI and some other companies with offices in my city use HP-UX. So better knowledge of HP-UX could be a very useful skill if I decide to work there.
