i am attempting to setup jungle disc server on ubuntu linux on the rackspace cloud server setup. this box has ubuntu linux 11.04 OS, nginx webserver, mysql db, and php. I ran through this setup to http://support.jungledisk.com/forums/61798-user-guide-jungle-disk-server-edition to get the server component working which I have verified is running using the top command, however I can not connect the client.

according to the guide I downloaded and installed the server client to my desktop and I attempted to connect via logging into my account, however, the server will not show up.

also, my server still says pending under subscriptions and purchases.

I can't find anything on this issue? thoughts?

any walkthroughs on how to set this up? can you connect to this disc form your workgroup computer i.e. my main workstation too?

I am now downloading a full copy of ubuntu server to set up in vmware to try this a little differently

jungledisk is owned by rackspace and offers an option to choose Amazon S3 which charges for traffic whereby if data is stored on rackspace, no charges for traffic. For a small company, to just backup files with jungle disk from ubuntu linux OS computers, i wonder what to choose. Commercial psychologically the price on traffic and the Amazon brand make it appear or maybe it is, of better quality than the cheaper Rackspace offer which is when it comes for just backing up ok ? but if its about backing up around 30 GB which updates from time to time, what would you consider a good choice ?

I need to remove junglediscserver from my server. I installed it using the .deb file they provide and not apt-get so I'm not sure how to remove it.

I tried apt-get junglediskserver remove as root and it says directories are not empty so they weren't removed.

I just installed Jungle Disk server edition on my linux server and have it set to backup the full /var directory once a night. Is there any issue with backing up this directory while my server and mysql are running? I've read that you should shut down mysql before backing up mysql files.. but I haven't seen any such warning in the Jungle Disk documentation.

We work with a lot of proprietary information that we do not want compromised. Is jungledisk any more or less secure than say backing up to a tape drive and using Iron Mountain's off-site storage?

I know JD totes this AES-256, but I still believe it is only as secure as the sysadmins at the S3 Datacenters. But then again your offsite Iron Mountain storage tapes are under the same risk. It's only as secure as the people holding your tapes are.

What are your thoughts on this?
