Is there a way to force installation of Windows Server 2016 Standard in English? The only choice in my install iso is German and I cannot choose English which I find very strange. Changing the system language to English via downloading the language pack is not an option because it is not implemented well. Half the system component names and system messages are still German. For example even after downloading and installing the English language pack the component "Device Manager" does not exist but only the German "Geraetemanager".

Anyone know why I cannot choose English from the get-go?

Of late I have noticed that many of the commands respond to me in foreign language. According to Google translate it is Italian.(See screenshot)

I have noticed that this happens to me only when I ssh to some remote system, as in this case. When I access that system locally then it "replies" to me in English. I had noticed this same problem for another remote system too. At that time I had assumed that maybe that remote system's language setting is screwed. However, now it seems my local system (ssh) is somehow introducing itself in Italiano.

What is going on?

I want to use the command line to install something, we have 2 OS's in 2 languages. To install the package in correct language I need to find out what the system language is.

How do I get the system language from the command line?

How can I change all of them to UTF8? How can I make the locale setting persistent in CentOS 5.5?

I got a new server but unfortunately the hoster only installs me Ubuntu 8.04 in german.

So the upgrade worked smoothly, but now I am trying to change the system to english.

I adapted /etc/environment

PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games"

And after searching forums I installed update-locale which generated the file /etc/default/locale

(this is the file i commonly remember from debian systems to hold the locale)

then i did dpkg-reconfigure locales which configured all the locales and after log out and relogin almost everything was in english.

the welcome messages is. the programs come in english. but for example apt is not:

which is a very bad thing because then the default arguments Y/N become exchanged by J/N etc.

How can i correctly change the locale to default us english in uft8 as if i had installed it from the beginnig?
