I have two Linux systems at work which have different NAS servers. Our developer tools run directly from them. The tools seem to run very slowly in one of the systems. (The tools read-write many files which too are mounted from the same NAS.)
How do I measure the data transfer rate the NAS storages have?
Of late I have noticed that many of the commands respond to me in foreign language. According to Google translate it is Italian.(See screenshot)
I have noticed that this happens to me only when I ssh to some remote system, as in this case. When I access that system locally then it "replies" to me in English. I had noticed this same problem for another remote system too. At that time I had assumed that maybe that remote system's language setting is screwed. However, now it seems my local system (ssh) is somehow introducing itself in Italiano.
What is going on?
I used one web based control panel to create some virtual users for Dovecot. That control panel no longer works so I need to do this manually.
I need to reset the password for one (virtual) user which is listed in dovecot.passwd file. The file uses CRYPT schema. How do I reset that password?
So the question boils down to - what can use to convert plain text password to CRYPT encrypted format?
In my server I noticed that I have mysqld and mysqld_safe processes running simultaneously. Is mysqld_safe supposed to run always, together with mysqld?
More precisely can I configure Nginx to output the log entry to a separate log file whenever a particular url is requested? Later the number of lines in that log can give me the download count.

I have a 64-bit server but only 256MB of RAM. So, I moved to nginx server with fast-cgi to connect to PHP. I have PHP 5.3.6 running.
The issue is that after every two or three days when I try to access any PHP page then I get server internal error. The only way around is to restart php-fpm manually. This means I should have set some wrong parameters which is causing it to choke. Below I have listed the relevant configs.

And I have four nginx processes running. On an average each php-fpm process takes 35MB of RAM (Virtual memory size 320MB each). I also have a MySql process running.

My web host only provides 64-bit OS, but the 64-bit Apache webservers take too much memory and occasionally lead to thrashing, under not too much external load.
Is there any way to configure Apache to use less memory, or do you suggest any other configuration?
My server has 256MB RAM and runs one wordpress and two other subdomains with static pages.
Current Apache process configs as shown by Webmin are:-
Min processes: 10
Max processes: 15
Initial startup processes count: 8
Max simultaneous connections per process: 4000
Update:- Right now I see 11 Apache processes running each taking about 360MB of RAM on my 256MB system!
