/opt/eduserver/eduserver gives me options:

Usage: /opt/eduserver/eduserver {start|stop|startphp|startwww|startooo|stopphp|stopwww|stopooo|restartphp|restartwww|restartooo|status|restart|reload|force-reload}

where memcache is php module there is memcache.ini in /opt/eduserver/etc/php/conf.d.

I want to clear the memcache from command line. Can I do it somehow without 'touching' any other part of the web server?

I am currently on a Xeon 7550 server running Redhat x86_64 es5 with 32gb RAM. I have memcache installed and the only step remaining in the configuration is to set how much memory it uses. I had done this on my old server, where I downloaded a file on through Filezilla (root access) and edited it. Now, I cant remember which file I edited and exactly how the process went. I want to set the memery to use 1 GB.

Anyone with some insight? Please be thorough if you will assist, as my linux server knowledge is limited.

I keep hearing about some PHP (opcode) caches like - APC, XCache, Memcache, eAccelerator, etc.

But I couldn't ever figure out how to go about choosing one. Apart from performance benefit, which a caching system is supposed to deliver, which other factors should be a point of concern.

Like why you will say X cache system is better than Y? I am less worried about relative performance gain. Small differences between any two systems matter less.

If a generic answer to my question is not possible, here are few pointers. I use dedicated VPS with Mediatemple (with root access). RAM is 512 MB (physical) + 400MB (swap) I am concerned about WordPress and its cousins WordPress-MU and BuddyPress. 90% of our codes/sites fall into WordPress family.

I'm trying to run memcached on a centos box and it runs for a while, but then ends up in this state:

memcached dead but subsys locked

netstat shows this:

tcp        0      0 :::11211                    :::*                        LISTEN      
udp        0      0 0.0.0.0:11211               0.0.0.0:*

ps shows this:

nobody   21983  0.0  1.8  60272 19912 ?        Ssl  16:46   0:00 memcached -d -p 11211 -u nobody -c 1024 -m 64

Anyone know what that means?
