I am using some custom code to upload staff photos into Active Directory. We also use Outlook 2010 which will download these photos and display them as people are reading and writing emails. I've heard some feedback that this is a great feature and there are some that don't like it and have demanded to have their photo removed. Fair enough, but it strikes me that these people are getting a free ride: they don't object to benefiting from learning to match names to faces, but don't want others to be able to recognise them.

Ideally I would like these people to be able to opt out, but for them to no longer be able to see anyone else's photos. Is there a way for them to do this?

I'm aware that this can be disabled in Outlook via File > Options > Contacts > Show User Photographs When Available, but they can just switch this back on again.

I have uploaded some animated GIF banners to our S3 account and when we use the web url provided by S3 and try to view the banners in a browser, instead of display the banners in the browsers, I get prompted to download the banner image. Why is this?

When I uploaded a JPG image in the same S3 bucket and try to view it with a browser, I don't have this problem?

How do we solve this problem? We would like to syndicate our GIF banners through various affiliate sites. Could this cause issues at their end? The full URL of the banner is in this format banners.mydomain.com.s3.amazonaws.com/dining-728x90.gif. Even when we use the CNAME version we have the same issue. The CNAME version is banners.mydomain.com/dining-728x90.gif.

I'm working for an engineer that takes about 500 pictures a month and uses Adobe Lightroom to manage them. He currently has about 2TBs of data that need to be backed up regularly. To setup a backup for him I was thinking about getting 6 1TB hard drives and then setting them up in a Software RAID 1 configuration with Ubuntu Server. Then his windows machine could regularly back up to the Ubuntu Server. But I dont know if this is the best or most effective method. Does anyone have any suggestions or methods to help me figure this out? Right now I think cost would be an issue for him with the 6 Hard drives we would probably order 8 just so we have two backups.

What I'm trying to do here without wasting too much time is we want our company to have all the associate photos as their contact pictures in Outlook. I know Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 have a lot of places now where contact pictures appear, if one is selected. So instead of having all the grey boxes to add a picture, we want to just add photos for everyone.

Here's what I understand -- We are running Exchange 2010, and from what I understand, each time a new user is created, it adds that user to the global contacts list, and then pushes that out to Outlook, correct? Also, with individual contacts added on each machine under the Contacts tab in Outlook, you can add all the user info and add a picture whereas the global contact list pulls straight from Active Directory. But, there is no where to add a picture in active directory for each user. Using google I found this which writes a script that uploads a 10K .jpeg photo to each active directory user, based on user name. Obviously that isn't the easiest way to do it.

Does anyone know of ANY way that would accomplish what I'm trying to do? If AD doesn't support photos, no biggie. I would just like to add these pics.

I was thinking maybe create a contact group of all the associates with the correct info and photos, and then import that to each machine. But I'm sure someone knows a better/easier way.

Please advice me, what products(amazon aws) should I use for my application (quite simple).

Q1. I am thinking of using EC2. (I am not sure if S3 can be elastic, easily extend the storage or not). Thus please, advice which products I needed for my apps? (EC2, RDS, S3, SImpleDB etc)

Q2. If I were using EC2, should I install httpd, mysql, php on 1 instance? Or should I separate it?
