I bought a domain from reseller like below :

www.test.com

I want to use this domain as my parent domain.

This domain in the reseller's web site has a control panel that I should set ns1.something.com and ns2.something.com but in those text boxes we can not put any ip-address!

What are these ns1.something.com and ns2.something.com?

I have a server with a valid IP address.

How can I connect that domain to this IP valid of my server (should I do this job in my server or other place - I mean which web site and panel should I use to do that)?

My department has just been given the right/responsibility to manage our own VPS. The idea being that the bureaucracy will be less for the many small web projects we run.

Since each project will be managed by a different team, I was planning on approaching a shared hosting model. Are there any free pieces of software that would help automate the provision of resources each time a team request a new project?

Most of the projects have identical requirements - basically LAMP - so it would be these resources that I would want provisioning (and de-provisioning, if that is a word) automatically. Ideally, there would also be a way to hook it into our LDAP authentication backend too, though I could probably make this sort of modification if necessary.

Since we won't be charging our "client" however, we won't need the ability to generate invoices, handle payments, etc. etc.

EDIT: Sample workflow

1. Login authenticated against LDAP
2. Username checked against admin group (not on central LDAP)
3. Click 'new project' and enter project name
4. User created on VPS with project name as username
5. Apache virtual host created and subdomain (using project name) allocated
6. FTP & MySQL users created

I've heard that IBM expects from their sellers/partners to update machines before shipping to customers to the most recent firmware (uEFI/AMM/IMM/RSA etc.) releases. Can anyone comment on that one?

I am currently administering about 15 small websites (total bandwidth never exceeds 1.5 GB/month) on a shared reseller host using cPanel and WHM. I'm about to migrate these sites to a virtual cloud server from Rackspace.

How would I go about implementing features of a managed reseller host on a virtual server (to which I have root access but nothing other than clean OS)? In particular, I would like to:

• Offer control panel access to each domain (specifically email/ftp account management and some form of access to the site's databases)
• Enforce bandwidth limits per account
• Enforce disk space quotas per account
• Manage billing

I'm running Debian lenny on the new cloud instance, and would appreciate answers for any web server (apache, nginx, etc).

I'm developing a common-interest social networking community which is soon ready for release. I need some advice on what type of a hosting plan will best fit both my emerging website development company and my new (hopefully high-traffic) online community.

I have narrowed it down to opening either Virtual Private Server hosting or a Reseller Account. I know roughly the advantages of each, VPS obviously for performance and Reseller for cost savings.

Specifically the two plans I'm comparing are JustHost's "Bronze" Reseller $20/month or DreamHost's VPS (http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting-vps.html) $24/month.

Is there anything I should be considering that might help to make this decision easier?
