I'm running up a bunch of HP Thin Terminals with Windows 7 Embedded Standard. I've enabled FBWF on the terminals and applications will be accessed by users via Citrix.

Very little needs to exist on these machines however they do require up to date AV protection. We are using Trend Micro OfficeScan 10.5, which installs fine. However I want to ensure that it will run correctly, update itself etc etc once FBWF is turned back on. I assume I will need to add exceptions to FBWF for this to happen and likely need to do so in the registry as well but I can't seem to find much in the way of documentation or discussion on the matter.

I could just add an exception for any/all directories that trend might need but I prefer the absolute minimum.

Any suggestions/links to documentation would be appreciated.

We are currently working on deploying a few Wyse WES7 thin clients (Z Class, exact model escapes me at the moment).

We have WDM setup, and are able to see new clients show up, interact with them, pull/push images. Our current workflow is something like this:

1. Unpack & boot up the device
2. Disable Windows Firewall, reboot
3. Device shows up in WDM
4. Publish our custom image to the new device.

My question is whether or not there is a way I can bypass step 2, and put my image on the client right out of the box. Either using PXE or USB boot disk, such that I can boot into some sort of menu and tell the client to pull a particular image from the WDM server.

With HP thin clients, we have a rule setup which detects new clients on the network and pushes our custom image to them first time they show up. I haven't been able to figure it out with Wyse.

I have a Wyse C90LE7 Thin Client with Windows Embedded Standard 7. By default it stores Internet Explorer Cookies in a Folder on the Z: ramdrive.

I need the Cookies to be stored on the C: flash drive, so that they are persisted through reboots.

When logged on with the Administrator user profile I can run regedit and see that the HKU registry hive of the User user profile is quite thin with no mention of a path with Z: in it.

What's funny is that even after I added User to the Administrators group this User seems to have only its totally restricted permissions (Only some entries and no Run... in the start menu, restricted control panel, etc.)

Some hints to point me to the right direction would be great.

I have a piece of self-serve kiosk software that will be running at multiple sites. I'd like to monitor a small number of parameters remotely.

The kiosk application itself is pretty much finished. I am now in the process of creating a piece of software that will monitor all of the kiosks from a central location so that the customer can view particular details remotely (for instance, how much cash is in the kiosk, if the kiosk is on or off, if it is currently out of order, etc.). Because I am in such an early stage of development, my options are quite open. I understand that I'm not giving very many qualifications, but I'd like to try to get a good variety of potential solutions. Some details:

• Kiosk software is a VB6 app running on Windows Embedded
• Monitoring software will be run on a modern desktop version of Windows (either XP, Vista, or 7)
• Database is SQL Server 2008

My initial idea was to develop a .NET app that would simply report the last database transaction for each kiosk at a set interval (say every second or so) but I'd really like for the kiosk software to report its status in real-time, perhaps just sending a packet with that small amount of information embedded. I'm not exactly sure where to begin in terms of what modifications may need to be made to the kiosk software, and what the monitoring software will require. Links to articles on these topics would be most welcome.
