I have a need to apply Microsoft patches/hotfixes from a WSUS server. I'm already using ZTIWindowsUpdate.wsf in my stand-alone MDT environment to patch machines during the build.

My target machines are not currently managed by SCCM.

Can this script be used to pull hotfixes on-demand (outside MDT) from a WSUS server? If so, is there a specific syntax? If not, are there any alternatives?

I have an intranet site, which is running on IIS 7. The site is accessible using both the FQDN (mysite.mydomain.mycompany) and by just "mysite".

The SSL certificate is signed for FQDN. It's installed and working fine if you were to visit https://mysite.mydomain.mycompany/ (Secure). Or if you access using non-secure short or long URL either http://mysite or http://mysite.mydomain.mycompany via 403.4 redirect to the secure page.

The problem I'm running into is that when a user visits the site using https://mysite/ (secure, with short alias). IIS presents the user with the only certificate it has, for "mysite.mydomain.mycompany", which of course doesn't match the address typed in by the user and they get a SSL certificate warning.

Is there anyway for me to intercept a visit to "https://mysite" and redirect the users to https://mysite.mydomain.mycompany" before SSL handshake happens with mismatched certificate?

If not, what can I do about it?

We are currently working on deploying a few Wyse WES7 thin clients (Z Class, exact model escapes me at the moment).

We have WDM setup, and are able to see new clients show up, interact with them, pull/push images. Our current workflow is something like this:

  1. Unpack & boot up the device
  2. Disable Windows Firewall, reboot
  3. Device shows up in WDM
  4. Publish our custom image to the new device.

My question is whether or not there is a way I can bypass step 2, and put my image on the client right out of the box. Either using PXE or USB boot disk, such that I can boot into some sort of menu and tell the client to pull a particular image from the WDM server.

With HP thin clients, we have a rule setup which detects new clients on the network and pushes our custom image to them first time they show up. I haven't been able to figure it out with Wyse.

All,

I have a DL380 G4 server with the following drives:

  • 2x 36.4GB - 15K
  • 2x 36.4GB - 10K
  • 2x 300GB - 10K

I'm trying to figure out how best to configure these drives. This is the first time I'm working with an HP servers. It has an HP Smart Array 6i controller and a total of 6 drive bays. I don't need to use all of them.

The target OS most likely will be CentOS 5.5.

Any insight would be appreciated.

EDIT:

  • This will be a CPanel webserver (with MySQL, Exim, Apache, etc.) I'm getting off of a dedicated server to get the machine colocated.
  • When I fired up the SA 6i configuration utility, it didn't give me a RAID 1 option. Just 5, 1+0, and 0. I'll see if the firmware needs to be updated tomorrow morning.

I am packaging Sametime client 8.0.2 for deployment. I have received the binaries from our Notes Admins. They have also given me the following zip file along with original installation: "sametime.patches.update.site.20090317-0613.zip"

This file contains two folders "features" and "plugins" and "site.xml" file. The folders contain a bunch of *.jar files.

Can any help me figure out how to apply this patch to an installation? There don't seem to be any instructions with the original install or the patch. I've already asked my Admins for more info, but was wondering if anyone here has experience with it?

Is there anyway to get complete error message using LogParser?

When I run the following query:

logparser -i:EVT -o:NAT "SELECT TimeGenerated,EventID,Message from System WHERE EventTypeName='Error event'"

I get the following output:

2009-09-02 19:35:44 7000    The USB Mass Storage Driver service failed to start due to the following error: %%1058

The full "Message" in EventViewer is:

Description: The USB Mass Storage Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

How can I obtain complete message using logparser?
