Been looking around everywhere but can't seem to find the answer to this - hopefully someone can assist.

Scenario: I have a Windows 2012 R2 server that has a C: drive only. Someone wants to add in a D: and E: drive - is there is a way of assigning default NTFS drive permissions on the newly created drive automatically?

So, for example when they add the drive then the permissions are automatically assigned to SYSTEM, Authenticated Users and maybe another group on the ROOT of D: drive. I have a feeling there might be a key in the registry that can do this but am stuck thus far.

I am trying to get the NIC speed via Powershell on some of my servers. For my lab server I know there is a 1GB NIC in there. However, when I do this via Powershell I get the below weird number:

The speed I am getting back is "9223372036854775807" - I checked the WMI property for Speed in Win32_NetworkAdapter and it returns "Bits per second" - however, in conversion this looks like a lot more than 1GB per second?

Any idea on why I am getting this back and also the best way of determining NIC speed (and to confirm that it definitely is 1GB)?

As I have many servers - I really would prefer to know the best way of getting this info if you have any ideas.

I want to automate the upgrade of my 2012 R2 servers from standard to datacenter.

However, there is a prompt at the end of the upgrade waiting for a user response. I have thousands of servers to do and cannot press "Y" at the end of it... any ideas how I can get the prompt to accept "Y" or "N" ?

kind of a weird question but how do I make a drive go from a OK state to disconnected state using net use? I do not want to delete it.

I am testing a script but the annoying thing is that to test the item I want I require a disconnected drive. I can't find anything anywhere as to how to do this.

If I do this:

net use X: /delete => then this deletes the drive.

I want the status of a drive to be "Disconnected"

Any ideas?

EDIT: I have taken the network offline and that disconnected a drive (i.e. the drive is now in a disconnected state)....not an ideal solution so if anyone has an idea where the network can remain online and I can make a drive "disconnected" that would be great!

We have a fully automated system (custom built and not via MDT or anything like that). Anyway, its been working fine for years and now a requirement has ocme in to add some language packs...but, when I inject any language pack into the unattend file I get an error on Windows Setup of "offlinestate incorrect" - or something like that (I forgot to get a screenshot of the issue).

The only thing that is different from the hundreds of servers we build is that this one is injecting in the language pack. I took the unattend file from a broken machine and compared it (via BeyondCompare) to one that works and the only difference is the lines below.

I think there might be some syntax incorrect or something missing? Can anyway one?

Server is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. The path of Y:is correct and does exist so not too sure why it is breaking. This happens if I install one language or multiple language as below.

I ran IOmeter on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 server for 18 hours and when I clicked on "Stop current Test and Save Results" it stopped the worker processes (I only had 1).

When looking at the results in the csv file it hardly shows anything...it shows size of blocks (512, 4096 etc) and % of read etc but when looking at the Results section it shows some data from when I started IOMeter and stats of when I stopped it but nothing inbetween?

The file size of the csv is 8kb but the file size of iobw.tst is 31GB! I have a feeling all the data is being stored in iobw.tst rather then the results file.

I assume I messed up some setting somewhere or something or is this normal? I don't remember changing any of the default setting except for the view of where I selected "Last Update" instead of "Start of Test"

Any ideas?

Example - if you have a Windows security patch that was released earlier in the year and you installed it. Then, if another security patch came out to SUPERCEDE that original one...would the server/computer show both patches as being installed or just the latest one?

I imagine it would be both...?

I am trying to edit this registry key via the command line - been searching around for ages but can't find anything.

Really stuck at the moment so any help would be appreciated a lot. I do not mind using PowerShell or anything that calls a third party tool - just want to change it via the command line.

The reason is that local Administrators have Read only rights by default. I want to change this to Full Control. I can do it in the GUI in 2 seconds but command line is another matter.
