I was wondering if it was possible to have managers set out of office in outlook, for those they manage. Almost every day I have to login into EMC and give myself full permission to someones mailbox and remove it when done. It's a really big pain, and I'm hoping that there is an easier way to do this, and a way that can have there managers do it.

I believe I'm having an issue with my Domain Controllers and Time Server. On my back up DC, I keep seeing a warning stating "The time service has stopped advertising as a time source because the local clock is not synchronized."
Does this mean that my backup DC believes it's a Time Server? My PDC should be the time server and I have gone through setting up the PDC as the time server.
I was not around for the original setup of the time server with the old PDC and Backup DC. But I believe the old PDC was the time server so I setup the new PDC as the new time server, when I decommissioned the old PDC. Is it possible that the Backup DC was setup as the time server and it still thinks it's suppose to be giving out time to everyone?
Registry for PDC has NTP Registry for Backup has NT5D5

In my office we have multiple TV's controlled by computers that display a slideshow of what is going on with the company. We also have music played on them and it is changed everyday by the receptionist remoting into each one. She closes out the slideshow, changes the pandora station, and will sometimes forget to open the slideshow again. Does anyone know a way that the receptionist can change the music on these machines without interfering with what the local account is doing?
All these machines are dell thin clients with windows 7 home premium, I'm thinking about installing enterprise on them all.
My organization is going to run out of local network IP addresses within the next few months. We are expanding to get a ton of new people and we are switching over to Lync IP phones.
Crunching through the numbers, we have about 253 addresses on the network and we are going to have over 300 IP devices. I'm not sure what I should look into to fix this problem.
I'm the server administrator, but I don't have a background in networking. I tried setting my computer from 192.168.1.XXX
to 192.168.2.XXX
, but it complained about a subnet issue. I left all the other settings the same as they were; subnet, DNS, gateway.
I just need to bring this up to my manager, with a couple ideas on how to fix this. Then maybe we can consult outside help if it will be to over my head. But in the meantimes I just need some ideas.
I recently created a GPO for turning on the firewall for everyone, but now I need it removed so that everyone can manage there own firewall. I tried to delete it and it just goes to a default firewall setting, but still has the managed by a system administrator box up at the top. No one can edit there own firewall. How can I get things back to normal?
I was wondering if this is possible. I would like to setup an internal virtual network, with internet access. I'm trying to create a lab environment for some testing. Nothing in the Lab Environment can touch the production network that the host is trying to get internet from. If this is possible, how can i set this up? My guess would be to have the hosts physical nic on the production network subnet, and creating a new subnet for the virtual network. Then somehow creating a static route between the 2 would be enough, but I'm not sure.
I'm going to be testing some software, MDT 2010 and Configuration Manager. I would like to create a virtual test environment. The Host box will be running Server 2008 R2 and the clients will be Hyper V boxes. The host will be the Domain Controller for the environment and what I'm looking to do is have one nic be the "WAN" and a virtual nic be "LAN". Is this possible, and if so, how can i set this up? Also should a Quad Core 3.0 ghz with 4gb of memory be enough resources for 2 2008 r2 boxes and 2 win 7 boxes. I have another machine a dual core 2.0 ghz with 2gb of memory, if needed.
Last Friday I installed a new domain controller, and everything seemed to have went smoothly. Removed the old DC and everyone can still login and stuff like that. But since I have setup the new DC there seems to be a problem with the exchange 2010 server. It keeps giving me a certificate error when I try to do a lot of things such as repair an email account, set out of office messages, and a few others.
I get this error for the mailserver.local.company name.com and autodiscover.company name.com
Was there something I was suppose to do on the Exchange Server when I changed DC?
I also noticed that when I start to get this error, I can no longer remote into the servers on the network and I have to restart my computer. I'm not sure if that is related or if I should start a new question on that.
Any help or a link to an article on this would be very appreciated.
I have just purchased a new server that will be the new primary domain controller. I was wondering if anyone knew any articles or tutorials on how to do this change over? I would imagine it is just simply setting up the role and importing a backup of the Active Directory from the old domain controller. I just want to make sure I'm not missing any crucial tasks in between.
My company is looking to virtualize our Microsoft SQL server. I read on another question that databases on VM's suffer from a IO bottleneck which is not very good for us. But I was wondering if since we are using Microsoft HyperV, Microsoft Server and Microsoft SQL, that Microsoft has these optimized to work as good as a physical machine?
Thank you
My company is looking to try and virtualize all our servers, and we are trying to figure out if virtualizing active directory is a good idea. Is it even something that can be done, and if so are there any drawbacks to having it setup this way. My network is setup with multiple physical servers, multiple virtual servers, and a SAN.
If you need any more information, please let me know.
