We have managed to get SQL Server 2008 merge replication working. However, it will occasionally fail for inexplicable reasons (currently, it's because of MSSQL_REPL-2147201021.) When this happens, our data does not get replicated for days! Our admins needs alerted when that is the case.

So, the question is: how can we be alerted when SQL Server 2008 replication fails for any reason. I also am worried about signal vs. noise. I just want to know when my data is not being synchronized and the error number that is causing the problem.

My company is evaluating becoming a Microsoft Dynamics Partner to do Dynamics installs. We'll probably start with NAV 2009, because it seems to be the easiest to develop for. However, we can't even find out what a typical Dynamics NAV 2009 license costs. This is pretty important for us to know so that we can start to identify our market before investing in training, etc.

Does anyone know how much Dynamics NAV 2009 costs?

We're creating a Domain account to run our Merge Agent under, and we're trying to determine what NT permissions it requires. I can't seem to find a definitive list anywhere. Our replication configuration is:

Publisher: SQL 2008
Subscriber: SQL 2005
Replication Type: Merge
Subscription Type: Pull
Snapshot location: Network share on publisher

It works when we run the Merge Agent as my account, but that has administrative permissions on both the Publisher and Subscriber, as well as a host of other machines on the network. We'd like to exercise the Principle of Least Privilege, so I'm looking for the minimum privileges necessary. Thanks in advance for the help!

UPDATE: Well, for now we've followed mrdenny's advice and gave the account Full Control and DBO access. I'd still be interested in the minimum privileges necessary. I can't imagine that we're the first people to need this...

We have SQL Server 2008 Merge Replication enabled, and I wanted to monitor any merge conflicts that arose. I setup a SQL Server Agent Alert following the instructions here. However, what I've found is that the Conflicts/Sec performance counter does not seem accurate at all. Every time the Merge Agent runs (~every minute), the counter reports over 2,000 conflicts! (I've verified this by running Performance Counter.) This can't be correct. Looking at the Replication Conflict Viewer we have 8 conflicts, and none in the last two hours.

So my question is, how accurate is this counter? Is there another counter I should be using?

EDIT: Just to prove I'm not crazy, here's a recent image of Performance Monitor showing over 4,000 conflicts!

I'm running Widows 2008 EE with IIS 7. I'd like to setup a reverse proxy with the SSL terminating on my Windows box, then proxying HTTP connections to a mix of IIS and Apache machines internally. So, to clarify (where -> means "proxied to"):

https://www.mydomain.com/svn -> http://myinternalsvnsrv/svn

https://www.mydomain.com/redmine -> http://myinternalredminesrv

etc...

Ideally, I wouldn't use any third-party add-ins like UrlRewriter. Is this possible with only IIS7?
