How do you get apt-get to authenticate through a proxy that only supports NTLM? Do I need to change my proxy config to also support other authentication mechanisms?

It's been a while since I've done any large-scale AD administration so I'm reaching back a bit here. I remember that there are certain security related attributes on a user account object that, due to their nature, are flagged for immediate propagation to other sites.
I have a case where passwords resets are not being propagated until scheduled replication happens. I had thought that was a case of immediate propagation. Am I just remembering incorrectly?

I'm not a storage guy. I know how to spell SAN and a few basics beyond that, but not much farther.
Are std disk counters reliable in measuring against SAN storage? We have 2 MS SQL (2005) servers both attached to the same SAN that started experiencing problems yesterday. We're not in control of the hardware so I don't have much information on how the storage is configured, other than what I see down to the LUN via Veritas Enterprise Admin (ie- just basic volume configuration). I don't have any access to the tools to monitor throughput on the controllers or switches.
In lieu of that I was running perfmon counters (% disk time for physical and logical, disk queue length for both physical and logical). The numbers for % disk time for Physical Disk seem just whack - up to 32000% (yes, 32K).
Is that right, or am I correct in thinking that something is aggregating up from below the LUN level to make that metric and this counter is not something that I should use against SAN storage?

Should add that we've recently discovered that one of the 32 cache modules is having issues and was taken out of the mix. I know it's a Hitachi, but I don't know any specifics as to model.
UPDATE:
Hitachi just finished swapping out the faulty memory module and reinitializing the fiber port card, now things appear to be back to normal. Thanks for the info guys!

I'm mainly asking from a private network perspective (assuming that they are affected by the firewall as well). That is, all of my apps that are in use in China are on our internal network.
I got to thinking about this after reading Mr Denny's recent answer on SQL replication. Now I'm wondering how much of a hit my app is taking in China because of the firewall.
I'm developing some workshop curriculum on the topic of Internet safety for the purpose of helping parents protect their kids. I'm good on the issue of helping parents control their home computers but I'm not very up to speed with how educational institutions configure the laptops they provide to students where (I assume) parents will have less control over configurations, specifically with regards to Internet access. Obviously parents can set general usage rules in the home such that they can watch their kids while using school-provided laptops, but what about when the kids aren't at home?

I have never worked in an "enterprise" infrastructure group but have been responsible for small networks. WireShark (Ethereal back in the day) always worked for me in those situations. Where is the line drawn on when to crossover? Or is it?
We're in a holding pattern on this one right now, but I thought I'd poll folks for some added info in case this has happened to anyone else.
We have 2 SQL 2005 Enterprise servers on Win2K3 Std x64. We installed the MS08-040 patch last year and it ended up corrupting the master database on both servers. It looked from the logs like it was mistakenly replacing 64-bit server binaries with 32-bit binaries. MS PS said it was due to 32-bit client tools being installed on the server and told us to take the 32-bit tools out.
I completely removed the client tools from the servers and reran the patch with the same results. I've had to put them back because we need to use them in our apps.
Everything worked fine on our 32-bit installations and even on our 64-bit development server. Since I'm anticipating getting marching orders at some point to install SP3 (which includes this patch) I'm grasping at anything right now to see if we can get some more info on this. We've also implemented the workaround for MS09-004 (which replaces MS08-040) instead of installing it.
Has this happened to anyone else? If so, were you able to work through it?
It seems that FF has a problem with 403 Access Denied responses from proxies, at least for ssl.google-analytics.com. I've found this post which describes my problem. I'm posting my workaround as an answer, but would also welcome any more information if anyone has it as I can't find anything!
EDIT: Note that the current version of Firefox which is experiencing this issue is 3.0.10

I'm not a Mac person (yet, plan to add that to the repertoire this year) but I've been following a lot of the Mac questions on SF. The defaults command comes up a lot and from the context of the questions / answers I get what it does. Just curious, is there a GUI for editing the settings? Seems to me that this would be somewhat analagous to the registry editor in Windows (although I expect that the registry does much more).
I'd like to compile an extensive list of folders to look through in Windows where user data might be hiding, specifically when migrating to a new machine or backing up your data to reload your existing machine with a reformat. Should include system settings folders
Existing tools to perform said task would also be helpful!

What are reasons to have separate folders besides to easily distinguish 32 bit images from 64 bit images?
When I fire up powershell it takes ~10-15 seconds to init and give me a prompt. Anyone know what it's doing when you first fire it up that might contribute to that? This is XP Pro, 2 GB of memory, only Outlook and Firefox running interactively, fairly straight-up.
For anyone who is running the Win7 RC, are you running into any unexpected problems with regards to hardware incompatibility? If so, have you been able to work through them in what you would call a reasonable fashion? Any big name things out there that are breaking with Win7?

EDIT 2: Would like some special attention to items that worked great under Vista that now are not-so-great under Win7.
I've repeatedly gone through the language bar configuration unchecking everything that will let it appear on my taskbar and the thing keeps coming back. I've just gone through the exercise again. It's not even an option right now when I right-click on the taskbar and hover over the Toolbars menu item. I've been here before, yet I know that shortly (maybe within 1-2 days) it will come back. Anyone else run into this? Can someone help stop the madness? I wouldn't mind just deleting the thing altogether. I never use it and it just takes up valuable space on my taskbar.
What are good alternatives to the Windows builtin remote desktop client?
I have tried Terminals and it is great but I've have run into numerous bugs with the latest release (currently 1.7e). Can anyone recommend an alternative similar to Terminals?
EDIT (in response to Adam Gibbins' answer): One of the biggest things I'm looking for is session management and a tabbed environment similar to the Terminals interface.
Does anyone know of a free open source recovery tool? Should include recovery of document protection password ideally.
EDIT: I'll settle for just Free instead of free and open source :) I'm looking for something that will handle not only passwords used to open the file but also passwords used to do Word's different forms of document protection.
