All the employees at my work shutdown their Windows 7 computers (iMacs running BootCamp) when they leave work. This ends up with people having MS Security Essentials say their computer is at risk, due to not having been scanned recently.

Is there a way to not have MS Security Essentials say this? I'd like to be able to scan their computers daily or weekly, but not interrupt their work by slowing down their computers with a scan.

We have a 1TB USB WesternDigital MyPassport External HDD plugged into our Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit) server (HP ProLiant ML110 G7) and when you go to eject the External HDD (to swap drives for backups), right-click and hit Eject MyPassport, it'll sit there for over a minute or two before it tells you its safe to unplug the device. It shouldn't be currently writing when we eject it, as all it does it Windows Server Backups on the hour and we're definitely not ejecting it while a backup is running.

Any idea what could be causing such long eject times?

I've been trying to get Server 2008 R2 to reboot after everyone is gone from work, to get its updates installed, but what I've been trying apparently isn't working.

I have a "reboot.bat" in C:/ that contains:

shutdown –r –f –t 5

The task is scheduled for 11:00PM, but when I come in the next day, it says "Last Run Result: (0x1)." and the server hasn't restarted.

Is there a better way to do this? Hopefully one that works...?

We have an HP LaserJet 4000 and an HP Color LaserJet 3600, both trying to manage from Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 (Print Management) and deploy to Windows 7 x86.

For the HP LaserJet 4000: HP's site says "Install the driver included in Windows 7 or Windows Update "...and I can't find anywhere to download the actual drivers to add to the server. If you try to add the printer from Windows 7, it says it can't find any driver for it, unless you let it search Windows Update on the Win7 PC for the driver (which I don't want to allow users access to, originally I had it disabled because we use WSUS).

For the HP Color LaserJet 3600: There are no Windows 7 drivers, but I put the Vista drivers on the server. Now, there's tons of issues trying to print greyscale (it inverts the colors, so it uses a black background and white text) and single-sided always attempts to print duplex (where it print pages 2 4 6 and then wants you to put the paper back in to get 1 3 5).

Does anyone know where I can find working drivers for these to put our Windows Server 2008 R2?

I was screen sharing to a OS X 10.5.8 Server and hit Log Out. From there, it went to a light-blue screen with a black mouse pointer, and now I can't log back in! How do I get back on to Screen Share without having to reboot the server? It's a file server and all of the files are still accessible, so the server is definitely still up and running, just can't screen share.

What's the best/easiest backup solution for my use case?

• Windows Server 2008 R2
• Has a finance program called The Financial Edge (Blackbaud) that uses SQL Server 2008 R2 to keep its database
• Stores user's files for them (i.e. it's also a file server)
• We want to be able to rotate 2 external disks (one on-site, one off-site; swapped weekly)

I installed a backup software program (Retrospect 7.5) running on Windows Server 2008 R2 (a domain controller). When I open it says:

Retrospect could not be started under the specified user account (DOMAIN\Administrator) and is running under Local System instead. This can be corrected in Configure>Preferences>Security.

If I go there, everything is greyed out and unchangeable. Is it possible to login to the domain controller as "Local System"? If so, how?

It seems as if there should be more updates from WSUS...possibly its not receiving any?

It's set to get updates for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Critical updates, definition updates, security updates, update rollups, and updates.

Is it possible I set it up wrong somehow?

UPDATE: If I go to Win7 PC and click "Check online for updates from Microsoft Update", it finds a Definition Update for MSE, but not if I check for updates regularly using the WSUS settings ("You receive updates: Managed by your system administrator").

WinSrv08R2. I have a drive mapped to Win7 clients via Group Policy that's on another computer (an OS X server, mapped via "\serverIP\folder"). EVERY time the user logs out and then back in, it pops up "Could not reconnect all network drives", except the two other mapped drives (from the Srv08 machine) stay connected. This is after you put in login info after clicking on the OS X Mapped Drive from My Computer and check REMEMBER MY CREDENTIALS, yet log off and back on (or reboot) and it does it all over again, and you have to re-enter the credentials every time.

Any solutions?

Better explanation:

1. Drive Maps via Group Policy on Server 08 R2, maps three drives (two local to server08, one via "\\serverIP\folder"), which is an OS X server.
2. Windows 7 computer is part of the Server08's domain and receives drive maps at User Login.
3. The two drives local to the Win08 Server connect fine EVERY time.
4. The drive from the OS X server can't connect and asks for credentials EVERY logout/login and reboot, even though Win7 checkbox set to Remember Credentials.

I had SQL Server 2008 functional before I installed Active Directory and setup a domain (this is on Server 2008 R2, the only domain controller), but now I can't login to the SQL Server (from SQL Server Management Studio). It says:

Cannot connect to (local).

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

What's going on? SQL Server 2008 is on the Domain Controller, same server/computer.

I setup Server 2008 R2 running Active Directory and now Win7 clients who are members of the domain can no longer see/access our OS X File Server. Doesn't show up in Network, nor can it be accessed by \osxservername. Did I break something, or is there a way to get around this?

Have an HP ProLiant ML110 G7 running Server 2008 R2.

Question #1:

This server takes FOREVER to boot. I think it's because of "HP Power and Thermal Calibration" it does at the beginning of every boot. Is this necessary, and if not, can disable it to speed up the boot times?

Question #2

Occasionally, the server tries to boot off the network for some reason, but this ONLY happens if there's an external USB hard drive plugged in (which we use for backups). Gets pretty annoying after rebooting and then finding its sitting there trying to boot off the USB Drive. I've tried digging thru it's "BIOS" but haven't found anything that looks like what I want (Change boot order?). Any ideas on this one?

I'm using Remote Desktop Connection 2.11 on Mac OS X 10.6.8, trying to connect to a Windows 2000 Server. I type in the IP (local) and it warns me that it can't verify the identity of the computer, I hit "Connect", it opens a black window (as if it were about to work) then immediately crashes:
