There are two pages in D-Link router to setup access to internal network from outside: Port Forwarding and Virtual Server. Both allows to map external port to internal one, except latter page also allows to change port.

I found that if I have service in my internal network and set it up in any of two pages, I can easily access it from outside.

But if it try to access my internal service from inside by external IP address, I succeed only if service is setup by Virtual Server page.

Why?

Is this D-Link bug or that behavior should occur because of Internet protocols? In latter case please provide some explanations.

I have installed Amazon EC2 instance and have set up tomcat7 on it with sudo yum install tomcat7 command. Also I have added a rule

8080 0.0.0.0/0

in instance's security group.

Also I ran tomcat7 service and now

$ service tomcat7 status
tomcat7 (pid 3979) is running...                           [  OK  ]

But I still cannot access tomcat's greeting page:

$ wget http://localhost:8080

Resolving localhost... 127.0.0.1

What else should be done?

Also I get "network unreacheable" error while trying to access the server from my home computer.

I have one virtual host on my machine, which I am accessing localy. I am running apache2 under windows 7.

When accessing this host, I see in Fiddler, that server redirects browser to different remote site with response

301 Moved Permanently

But I am absolutely can't find where is it configured. I search all .htaccess files for the URL of target site, all files in the given virtual host for this URL, all Apache directory...

How to trace what causes Apache to do this redirection?

I have Apache web server installed on local Windows 7 x64 machine. It has no global DNS name.

In default distribution it has virtual host configured in Apache/conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf file.

It has one directive

NameVirtualHost *:80

and multiple directives

<VirtualHost *:80>

with different

ServerName www.domain.tld

Different names are written in hosts file and all pointing to 127.0.0.1.

Unfortunately, virtual hosts do not work. Only first <VirtualHost> tag seems to be active. Nothing said on httpd.exe starting and in error.log.

How to make virtual hosts working here?

EDIT

I see no reason why DNS can be required. GET request contains symbolic name of the site, so, the server has all information to distinguish which virtual host was called.

I found that virtual hosts DO work (without DNS!). It is a problem with one specific host.
