I am creating customized rpm through source. I want to know what is the use of %files section. These are the files that rpm will include in the package or it needs these files for rpm creation purpose? How to know which files should be listed under %files section and what is the exact path of these files?

Follwoing error is coming:

/bin/sh ../../libtool --mode=install ../../build/shtool install -c -m 644 libldap.la /usr/local/openldap-2.4.31-root/usr/lib
libtool: install: error: cannot install 'libldap.la' to a directory not ending in usr/local/lib

I am trying to create rpm through rpm package manager. Following is my spec file:

And below is the error I am getting:

When I have installed the package directly by ./configure -> make -> make install It was sucessfuly installed but when I am trying to create a package through rpm then the problem is coming.

What is the difference between running slapd using

service slapd start

OR

slapd

?

How can I pass options to the service slapd start command, like slapd -h ldap:// -f salpd.conf?

I have two berkeley dbs installed on the RHEL 5.3. Now, I am confused that which one openldap is referring as its backend.

Following is the slapd.conf:

I am new to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3(Tikanga) as well as to open ldap.As openldap comes by default with the red hat.So i have installed berkeley database db-5.3.15.tar.gz

Version of already installed OpenLdap: openldap-2.3.43-3.el5

When I am running slapd by command:

service ldap start

It is showing

Starting slapd: [ OK ]

but no slapd process is starting. Please suggest what is the problem.
