What's the best practice for routing traffic away from an Azure website / role when you want to run an update.
Would you simply route away traffic using the Traffic Manager and wait the 5 minutes or however long you have the DNS TTL set to? That would work fine but it adds a lot of delay to deployments. Is there a better/faster way to route traffic away during a deployment?
The default TTL on Azure Traffic Manager is 5 minutes by default. Does this mean that when a server (endpoint) goes down then people won't get routed to a working server for up to 5 mins?
I've two UPSs. I'm going to connect two devices to them and the combined wattage of the devices is below the rating for each single UPS. Would it be better* to connect the UPS device in serial with both devices connected, or to connect one device to each UPS separately?
Edit: *where better means the devices will remain powered up for longer during a power failure.
It is possible to host multiple SSL websites on a single IP address using IIS 7.5 & Windows Server 2008? Or must one upgrade to Windows Server 2012?
I'm re-wiring a building and want to get the best cable possible laid - it required re-plastering to make a change to the cables and the cables will be there for the next 10 - 20 years.
Currently there appears to be cat 7a cable available but not too much in the way of cat 7a connectors. Also - I won't be using 40Gig hardware in the near future.
So, my question: is it possible to use cat 6a connectors / patch panels with cat 7a cable and get the same performance as I would had I used cat 6a cable? Are there any gotchas in trying to do this?
Are there any Windows utilities that allow you back up single MSSQL tables? Having a lot or trouble finding any. I hear sqlbackupandftp is good, but as far as I can see, it doesn't back up single tables.
Can anyone recommend a database backup utility, free or paid? Ideally it will
backup MSSQL & MySQL, but MSSQL only will suffice

I'm building a RAID1 array with two 2TB drives on a PERC H200 controller. It's been going for 60 hours now and is at 43%. Is it normal to take so long?
Dell's OpenManager server admin tool can send email alerts, but the config for the SMTP server has no field to enter username/password.
Can it only make use of non-authenticated SMTP servers, or is there a way to enter username and password as part of the server name?
I've got 5 databases, each 300GB, currently on a RAID 5 array consisting of 5 drives. All the databases are used heavily, at the same time, so drive speed is an issue.
Would I see better performance if I got rid of the RAID 5 configuration and just put each database on a separate drive? The redundancy provided by RAID 5 is not necessary due to mirroring elsewhere.
Will the server then be able to perform reads / writes to different databases drives in parallel? More so at least than when it's in RAID?
This is all on Windows 2003 / SQL 2008.
I've a MD3000 and the max partition size that I can allocate is 2TB. Is there any way, through firmware updates or other trickery, to allocate a useful amount of space to a partition, 4TB say?
Is it possible to use a different PERC card with the MD3000 to do this?
I've just got a Dell PowerEdge T610 server. The case is locked and looks like it needs a flattish key to open. Two circular ended keys came with the server, but they fit the front of the case, not the side.
Is there a trick to it, or did I get the wrong type of key with it?
I'm trying to select a PERC card to use with a PowerVault MD3000 (15 drives in RAID5). Is the 5/E the only card compatible with the MD3000 on sale by Dell at the moment - or are there newer better options?
I'm using FTP 7.5 on Windows 2008 R2. When I upload a file and it is partially uploaded I'm able to move it before it has completed. Is there a way to stop this? I see an option under Advanced settings->Behaviour->File Handling->Allow reading files while uploading but this doesn't seem to do the trick. I guess it's write access that I need to stop.

I've just migrated to a new server but some of the legacy code has some IPs hardcoded. Can someone tell me how to redirect requests for one IP and make them go to another?
EG. I ping 83.83.83.83 and it gets redirected to 66.221.24.31.

Is it possible to set access any directories outside the FTP root with Windows Server 2008 and FTP 7.5 server? I have FTP User Isolation set to 'User name directory' and have created a virtual directory under the LocalUser directory with the same name of the user which links to an external directory. But this isn't working so I guess it's not the right way to do it. Any ideas anyone?
What ports do I need to open for me to be able to access Windows FTP server (running on Server 2008) for both active and passive FTP? Opening 21 on it's own is not enough.
I have a 301 set up which redirects http://domain.com to http://www.domain.com (http://www.domain.com$S$Q) but if I browse to https://domain.com I get an SSL error (as it expects www.domain.com).
Is there any way to make it redirect before the browser throws a cert error?
I'm trying to figure out my colocation needs and one requirement is the power usage of a server. Most colocation providers give you the option of between 0.4 and 1 amps per U server. How should I go about working out how much power a server would use?
Windows 7 is now available on MSDN. Is this time limited in that you will need to reinstall when Windows 7 is released to the world in a few months? Or will it just need an updated key, or need nothing at all?
