Im trying to import a mongo collection onto an EC2 instance, i have used 

mongoimport -d test -c foo importfile.json

This worked fine on my localhost but on my EC2 instance it says

mongoimport -d test_mr -c att_live /var/www/html/app/config/schema/reduced.json couldn't connect to [127.0.0.1] couldn't connect to server 127.0.0.1

I have no problems connecting to my mongodb on the EC2 server and doing commands manually, it just fails on the import.

Any suggestions?

I am trying to sftp into an a server hosted by someone else.

To make sure this worked I did the standard sftp [email protected] i was promted with the password and that worked fine.

I am setting up a cron script to send a file once a week so have given them our public key which they claim to have added to their authorized_keys file.

I now try sftp [email protected] again and I am still prompted for a password, but now the password doesn't work...

Connecting to [email protected]...
[email protected]'s password: 
Permission denied, please try again.
[email protected]'s password: 
Permission denied, please try again.
[email protected]'s password: 
Permission denied (publickey,password).
Couldn't read packet: Connection reset by peer

I did notice however that if I simply pressed enter (no password) it logged me in fine...

So here are my questions:

  1. Is there a way to check what privatekey/pulbickey pair my sftp connection is using?
  2. Is it possible to specify what key pair to use?
  3. If all is setup correctly (using correct key pair and added to authorized files) why am I being asked to enter a blank password?

It seems to suggest that it tries to use the public key... What am I missing?

When i add SSLEngine on into my vhost setup apache wont start... Any help would be great.

I am doing the following the following to setup SSL on my server:

yum install mod_ssl openssl

key_dir=/home/keys/ssl
mkdir -m 700 -p $key_dir
echo "$SSL_KEY" > $key_dir/ca.key
echo "$SSL_CERTIFICATE" > $key_dir/ca.crt
echo "$SSL_INTERMEDIATE" > $key_dir/intermediate.crt
chmod 400 $key_dir/*

cp $key_dir/ca.crt /etc/pki/tls/certs
cp $key_dir/intermediate.crt /etc/pki/tls/certs
cp $key_dir/ca.key /etc/pki/tls/private/ca.key

The below is the virutal host I have placed at the bottom of /etc/httpd/conf.d/ssl.conf

<VirtualHost *:443>
        SSLEngine on
        SSLCertificateFile /etc/pki/tls/certs/ca.crt
        SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/pki/tls/private/ca.key
        SSLCACertificateFile /etc/pki/tls/certs/intermediate.crt

With SSLEngine on apache wont start without it it works fine.

Any suggestions?

I just found this in the apache error log:

I am looking to create a 301 redirect based purely on a query string see b

OLD URL: olddomain.com/?pc=/product/9999
New URL: newurl.php?var=yup

My normal way of doing this would be 

redirect 301 pc=/product/9999 newurl.php?var=yup

But this time I am trying to match a URL that that only contains the domain and a query string...

What is the best way of doing this?

The answer states that the following should work:

SetEnvIf Remote_Addr ^127\.0\.0\.0$ owner
<IfDefine owner>
    DirectoryIndex index.html
</IfDefine>
<IfDefine !owner>
    DirectoryIndex index.php
</IfDefine>

I am not sure this works, the setting of the Env var deffinately does, but no matter what IP I visit the site from the DirectoryIndex is always index.php

Is there something wrong with the conditional or should I be using something else?

This is related to https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1791082/utf-8-php-and-xml-mysql, which I am still trying to get my head around.

I have a couple of separate questions that will hopefully help me understand how to resolve the issues I am having.

I am trying to read values from a database and output into a file in UTF-8 format. But I am having encoding issues, so I thought I would strip back all my code and start with:

$string = "Otivägen";
// then output to a file.

But in vim I can’t even enter the that string; every time I paste it in I get Otivägen.

I tried to create a blank PHP file with only that string and upload it, but when I cat the file again I get Otivägen.

My questions are:

  1. Why is vim displaying it like this?
  2. If the file is downloaded, would it display correctly if an application was expecting UTF-8?
  3. How can I output this string into a file that will eventually be an XML file in UTF-8 encoding?

My understanding of encoding is limited at the moment, and I am trying to understand it.

We have several vhosts that all include files from another vhost so in the httpd.conf we have added

php_admin_value open_basedir "..........:/home/commonfi"

I was wondering whether I could add something to the commonfi vhost setup to allow any site to access the files without having to specify /home/commonfi in the open_basedir for every other vhost.

Is this possible?

I have a muluitple vhosts set up all with the same DocumentRoot pointing to a common set of files, I have set up AliasMatch for for the bespoke files on each site, I was wondering if I can have a .htaccess file for each vhost.

#Sample vhost
<VirtualHost xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80>
    ServerName mytest.com
    ServerAlias www.mytest.com
    DocumentRoot /home/commonfiles/public_html
    ......
    AliasMatch /css/(.*) /home/ftpuser/public_html/mycss/$1
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80>
    ServerName mytest2.com
    ServerAlias www.mytest2.com
    DocumentRoot /home/commonfiles/public_html
    ......

I have added in an AliasMatch for the .htaccess but that didn't work.

Any suggestions?

Just realised i posted this on stack overflow by mistake, so here it is in the correct place!

I have approx 50 sites that all use the exact same files other than CSS and IMAGES, i currently duplicate the files each time i create a new site and upload different css and images.

What I want do so set up each vhost to have the same DocumentRoot then add AliasMatch for the css and images folders e.g:

#Common Files VHOST
<VirtualHost xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80>

    ServerAlias www.commonfiles.com
    DocumentRoot /home/commonfiles/public_html
</VirtualHost>

#Sample vhost for 1 of the 50 sites.

    ServerAlias www.mytest.com
    DocumentRoot /home/commonfiles/public_html
    ......
    AliasMatch /css/(.*) /home/ftpuser/public_html/mycss/$1

The alias works perfectly for the bespoke files but the common files cant be accessed because of permission errors:

This is the current server setup which I think may be part of the problem (Previous Server Admin Set this up):

  • Apache(Apache/2.2.14 (Unix)
  • PHP 5.2.11
  • CentOS 4.8 i686 standard
  • PHP 5 Handler is dso
  • Apache suEXEC is on

Any suggestions?

I am trying to a SCP on my local server that copies a file from one remote server to another remote server (Both remote servers use a custom port (xxxx)

I am trying:

scp -r -P xxxx [email protected]:/home/myimages/images.tar.gz [email protected]:/home/myimages/images.tar.gz

But i get the following error:

ssh: connect to host xxx.xxx.xxx.222 port 22: Connection timed out

Any suggestions?

I have created an ftp account within a vhost and added a symbolic link to a folder situated in root e.g.

[root@server myvhost]# pwd
/home/myvhost
[root@server myvhost]# ll
.....
lrwxrwxrwx  1 myvhost myvhost 16 Oct 27 15:03 myfolder -> /root/myfolder/
.....

All files inside /root/myfolder/ including itself are chown'd to myvhost, but I am having issues when trying to upload files to this folder.

Is this simply impossible because of permissions or am I missing something.

I am trying to find out how many times a specific web file has been accessed. I have root access to the server, but not sure where to look. The only place I have looked in is /home/FTPUSER/access-logs which is a sym link to /usr/local/apache/domlogs/perrysre and that access log only has 1 day of data in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a complicated one which I hope has a simple answer...

RewriteRule ^category/([^.]+)/([0-9]+)/([^.]+)/([0-9]+) category.php?c_id=$2&filters=$3&_p=$4&name=$1

This rule would pick up category/kitchen/10/0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0/1

with the following get vals:

category.php?c_id=10&filters=0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0&_p=1&name=kitchen

The reason filters were stored in 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 was because of the 9 back references limit. Each 0 was a different filter variable which I accessed by doing a split on $_GET['filter'].

I am now changing my URL to a non mod rewritten one, so that the rewrite rule becomes:

RewriteRule ^category/([^.]+)/([0-9]+)/([^.]+)/([0-9]+) category.php?c_id=$2&filters=$3&_p=$4&name=$1 [R=301,L]

Note to [R=301,L] so it becomes a 301 redirect.

This is all fine but I was wondering if there a was a clever way of splitting the 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 so that each 0 is a get variable. So I can get

category.php?c_id=10&f1=0&f2=0&f3=0&f4=0&f5=0&f6=0&f7=0&f8=0&_p=1&name=kitchen

Any idea?

I am using the following command:

\cp -uf /home/ftpuser1/public_html/ftparea/*.jpg /home/ftpuser2/public_html/ftparea/

And I am getting the error:

-bash: /bin/cp: Argument list too long

I have also tried:

ls /home/ftpuser1/public_html/ftparea/*.jpg | xargs -I {} cp -uf {} /home/ftpuser2/public_html/ftparea/

Still got -bash: /bin/ls: Argument list too long

ANy ideas?

I am looking to make www.purchase.domain.com redirect to purchase.domain.com, below is an example of what i am trying to do:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.purchase\.
RewriteRule (.*) http://purchase.DOMAIN_NAME/$1 [L,R]

I need a variable that will replace DOMAIN_NAME with simply purchase.domain.com

Obviously i can hard code the purchase.domain.com but i will need the code to work on multiple sites. Any suggestions?

I am trying to copy all newer jpgs from one folder to another using the following command

cp -u --force /home/oldfolder/*.jpg /home/newfolder/

and I get the following promt:

cp: overwrite `/home/newfolder/4095-181.jpg'?

The '-u' I know is working fine as is it only prompting me on the newer files, but i dont want to get the prompt i just want it to overwrite them. I have tried --force and -f

Any suggestions?

I am trying to work out why we are getting alot of error coming into our apache error log that state 'File does not exist:' e.g.

File does not exist: /home/FTPUSER/public_html/category, referer: http://www.DOMAIN.co.uk/category/epson-stylus-c40sx/497/0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0/1

(Where FTPUSER is cpanel user name)

there isn't a reference to /home/FTPUSER/public_html/category anywhere in the code, any suggestions?

please also note that /category/epson-stylus-c40sx/497/0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0/1 is a mod rewrite rule for cat.php?id=497 etc...
