I am managing a few client sites where the employees login to a terminal server to do their work. With the recent update to IE8 I am having the issue where every time IE8 starts up it will go through the Getting Started section every time.
How do I stop this from happening?
Is there a limit windows server 2008 to how big your storage pool/partition size can be?
Background:
We are a small IT company that doesnt have any official cisco training that have picked up a few cisco routers than we have been able to bluff through except for this problem.
The issue:
When on the internal network behind the cisco router if you try to access a service from our network using the external IP address it will not connect.
An Example:
If we try to visit the company website which is internally hosted then it will give an error saying it cannot estrablish a connection to the webserver.
We are running windows small business server 2008 but when it comes back every day with its status report it is reporting the backup as not configured. is there a way to tell windows that we are using our own backup software like you tell windows you are managing the firewall/antivirus.
I am in a situation where i have limited time to pull of an exchange backup and i wont make it if i wait till the closing off business. Does the NTbackup utility bring down exchange while backing up or can it be ran without bringing anything down?
I am looking setup a server that will allow us to install OS's (such as windows xp) over a network boot. Is there any solutions out there that will allow such a thing?
Edit: Also i wanted to point out that im looking to do install from scratch, not ghosting.
After doing a backup, then a reinstall of a client's Windows XP computer I forgot to create a .pst of their mail from outlook 2003. I have all the data from the old installation but I don't know where Outlook 2003 stores its data.
Where abouts can I find this data?
I am in the proccess of setting up a few virtual servers and i decided that our active directory server has the most free resources currently but when i started the install it returned a warning saying that it is not a good idea installing vmware server on an Active directory.
Does anyone have any insight on why this could be a bad thing?

In sharepoint Services 3 what is the best way to let people create a private task so that only they and the person that assigned it may see it.
I am in a situation where our portable hard drive has taken a turn for the worst and now our only alternative is to push images to a network share.
Unfortunaly norton ghost does not support networks (as far as i can see) so we are out of luck with what we currently got.
Open source/free software would be great but paid versions will do.
I was recently assigned to deploying a sharepoint 3 site to allow people to manage their workflow through sharepoint. One of the things that need to be done is tasks need to synced with the exchange server so that if somone asigns a task via sharepoint it will apear in their tasks folder.

I am going through a setup of thinstation and i am in a situation where i need to add a custom DHCP record so when i computer starts up it knows where the TFTPD server when it gets DHCP.
I've had a snoop around and i cant seem to see the ability to add a custom record, is there a way to do this on windows?
At work we run a windows 2008 server and we roll out Remote Apps for all the applications that out employees use. So far they are working wonderfully with very little issues but there is one problem that props up every once and while that we cant seem to shake.
We have an issue where the application after being left alone for a while stops responding instead of falling back to the login box. When this happens we go "No Biggie" and ALT + F4 the application and start it again.
Then after the application has loaded as you can see when u click on details it doesn't hand over the window to the user it just stays in its loading box. You are actually able to use the application while it is loading because it is fully loaded.
The only solution we have currently is remoting into the server and killing all processes being used by the user and starting them again.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and/or knows the solution.
I have a open relationship with Linux, i use it on and off and i just got into the latest ubuntu and got a change to try out wine and it seemed to take any windows app and make it like i was actually using windows.
I wanted to know is wine that stable to use in production/businesses or are there problems that i haven't come across yet?
Is there any good alternatives for active directory?
To clarify, after deploying and maintaining many Windows-only sites all using Active Directory, I started to wonder why I never thought twice about using something else, e.g. Linux. I understand that a full-featured alternative may not exist yet, but I'm at least looking for something that is aspiring to be active directory and working towards it.

Are there any good network mapping tools for creating a visual representation of the network?
I'm talking about an automatic mapping tool that will do a scan of the network and make a map for me.
I have been looking for a open source alternate to windows thin-client terminals we use for remote desktop into a terminal server which is where users do all their work.
I am often in the situation where i have multiple computers that would do great as a thin-client but i would need to buy an XP license.
Is there some kind of Linux software distro that basically lets you setup an automatic RDP connection on start-up?
