This question is practically identical to this question, but the difference being that the authentication server is freeRADIUS on Ubuntu and the access-points are DD-WRT.

Additionally, I would like to know if there is any risk to disabling TTLS (which from what I understand the part of the authentication process that requires the certificate) or if that is even an option.

I understand now that there is a difference between TLS and TTLS. I want to use TTLS, since it does not require client configuration. I have assigned the answer to the post below because it helped come to this realization and I have edited the title to better reflect his conclusion.

I've been trying to use nTop for the past week and I've gotten a little fed up with the fact that it loses all the data that it's stored after a reboot.

Consequently, while looking for alternatives, I've come across multiple suggestions of nfsen.

Does nfsen allow me to plot, per ip, bandwidth AND protocol usage over time? If it is not supported natively, does someone have scripts that would interpret the netFlow data to demonstrate this? Is it only nTop that can accomplish this?

I've googled this and I've found vague hints of people creating their own scripts to accomplish what I want to do. I've got some scripting knowledge (python, perl), but I would rather not invent the wheel. Is anyone willing to share?

I have a gig of nTop RRD files and I would like to start graphing them with rrdtool (but not with nTop, since I'm hoping to do this with a separate backup of the database as workaround to the impossibility of limiting the RRD files by size), but I don't know how the files are structured.

I've tried reading the RRD documentation from SourceForge and the nTop FAQ, but I'm not finding the information I need. Does anyone know of any documentation I should be looking at or how the files are structured?

At first I thought it was organized by IP address (so the rrd files for address 1.1.2.3 would be stored in folder 1->1->2->3 or even the reverse order), but that doesn't seem to be the case. It isn't organized by MAC address either, although some hosts are saved that way.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to graph the RRD files that nTop creates, but I don't want to re-invent the wheel.

What I Know

  • There is an API for nTop that involves python. I have read the details of it yet.
  • I know that nTop is open-source, but it is written in C which I'm unfamiliar with.

What I Don't Know

  • Is it difficult to write your own script?
  • Can you re-use a lot of the nTop source code?
  • How difficult is it to use rrdtool for graphing?
  • Should I just be using XML dumps?

The Details

Basically, I'm trying to work around the fact that nTop does have a hard limit in terms of rrd database size. What I'd like to do is when the database reaches (or exceeds) a certain size is to rename it "rrd2", thus forcing the tool to recreate it's database. With "rrd2", I can export it or compress it or delete it if it turns out that it isn't useful to keep data that long. The problem is, after you stop nTop, you can't tell it to open an old rrd file to graph it for you (well, at least I can't tell it to do that).

Links, terms to google (I'm out of ideas) and hard doses of reality are greatly appreciated.
