I have apache 2.2.22 running on debian.

I have tried to enable deflate on this server but no matter what I do, the response is not getting deflated.

If I now try to get a simple html file from the site, it is not being compressed. The same happens with php output:

I already disabled output_buffering and zlib.output_compression in php.ini.

Is there an error somewhere in my configuration? What else can I try to find the problem/fix the issue?

Interestingly enough, when I made syntax error in my configuration, the 500 error I got was gzipped!

We are using a network Samba drive for Backup on our Linux Server. In order to store permissions (Samba does not support this), we have created a loop device to a large file (50GB) on the network drive. This works fine most of the time, but every few weeks the loop device goes into readonly mode.

Here is the fstab snippet for network drive and loop drive:

I aldo tried standard loop configuration, but the problem maintains:

Our assumption: As far as I know the mounted drive goes into readonly mode when the connection to the physical device is lost. Thus when the network drive loses connection, the loop file is gone and the loop mount goes into readonly mode. The cifs handles reconnecting of its own mount, but loop knows nothing about it.

Our current solution is to force remount of both samba and loop device shortly before our cronjob would start the backup process. This works, but doesn't feel right.

Is there a possibility to trigger remount of loop device when the target loop file gets back online?

A Debian Server stopped responding earlier today. After hardware reset, the data on server was rolled back several months ago to the state it was in february. How is this possible?Everything, logs, webdata, databases, are as if the computer has been turned off on 03. February and turnd on today.

Does anyone know what could cause this? Hacked? How can I prevent this from happening again?

EDIT:

Here is the update what really happened.

On the Server there is a Mirror RAID configuration. One of the HDDs stopped writing data on February 3rd. When second HDD broke earlier today, the system could only boot from the first one. That is why all the data was that old.

Apparently, this is one in the million situation.
