I have a new Comcast Business Gateway that just replaced my old, perfectly-functional residential modem. I noticed the router I had only had a 10/100 ethernet WAN port but I have a 100mbit connection, so I took the router off and my speeds jumped from about 85 to 107 mbits.

The modem/gateway has a router and firewall built in. I took the port forwarding rules from the old router and applied them in the new gateway.

Now I have people telling me they can get to my websites, which means the port forwarding is working externally; however, when I browse to any of the URLs, I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" or "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to". The browsers do not report any HTTP status code.

• My IIS is configured to listen on all IPs, so local traffic should be served.
• When I run a tracert to my public IP or domain, or to the web server's local IP, all come back within one hop.
• I have not changed any configuration on the webserver.
• I do not have any firewall rules that prevent (1) outgoing local traffic from my test machine, (2) incoming local traffic on the webserver, or (3) port 80 traffic through the router.
• I tried putting the webserver in the DMZ to no avail.
• The old modem was a Cisco DPC-3000. The old router was a D-Link GamersLounge DGL-4100. The new modem/gateway is an SMC SMCD3G.

What must I do to re-enable the local traffic?

I have a Windows Server 2008 machine with dual NICs. Both are plugged into the same switch in a typical one-switch, one-gateway home network.

This server is used almost exclusively for inbound connections. It hosts a web server (IIS 6), SQL server, and file server (via LAN UNC paths and mapped drives).

How do I make best use of inbound bandwidth across both NICs? For example, if I connect to it by hostname and one of the interfaces has high traffic, I'd like the new connection to use the other interface.

I have a customer who plans to deploy an app to one server and have 100 or so users remote desktop into that server. It's currently planned at 4GB RAM.

Obviously there are problems to explain with this idea, but the customer seems willing to scale up the hardware (and his licenses) as needed and take everyone offline to do new deployments at night. My suggestion was a website instead of a winform. Customer said maybe later.

Theoretically, given standard Windows Server hardware -- let's say he can scale up to four quad core HT Xeons with 32GB -- And also given that the software itself doesn't become a problem --

• What is the absolute maximum number of users that any one Windows server can manage?
• At what number of simultaneous users should I tell him he's got a scalability nightmare on his hands?

Let's say I have an IIS App Pool set to cap at 25%. But the pool runs a webservice which spawns a process. Is that subsequent process subject to a subset of that 25% or does it get full reign of the CPU? And if so, how can I regulate it to stay within the set limit?

I have a webserver running Server 2003 Datacenter and IIS 5 which is hosting a variety of ASP.NET 2.0 websites. I'm attempting to add an ASP.NET 4.0 website which I wrote via the VS2010 Beta, and I have .NET 4.0 Beta 1 installed on the server.

The website appears to be configured correctly; anonymous access is on, it points to the right folder, and is set to asp.net 4.0.

Why might it be giving me a 404 error when I browse to it, both locally and remotely?

Apparently I deleted the default website on my server. That is, I have 3 and none seem to be the "Default", though one is listening on port 80 for blank headers. TFS wants one installed, how do I add it back?

The storage servers I've seen generally use 2.5" drives instead of 3.5" drives. In my experience the larger drives have better capacity, speed, and durability. Why are the smaller ones favored in servers?

Note this doesn't apply to C: drives.
