I can't find any document describing their function. Please explain it!

I tend to work with javaws applications. I also have to set different proxies for them (for each javaws application). Up until today, I was using one application at a time, and manually changing proxies in java Control Panel.

My proxy properties are stored in ~/.javaws/deployment/deployment.properties file.

I was wondering if it would be possible to start a javaws application which is using an other ~/.java directory, because this way I could run multiple javaws applications with different proxy settings at the same time.

Facts:

• VTOC (or EFI) is required to access slices of a disk device
• s2 slice is used to access whole disk (including VTOC on the disk beginning)
• new disk device comes without VTOC
• system: Solaris 10 OS, on SPARC architecture

Question: How can it be, that format is able write VTOC to a disk if it does not have a VTOC?

Question in detail: To create VTOC, format needs to write s2. To write s2, VTOC needs to exist. Simplified: to create VTOC, VTOC needs to exist. How this chicken and egg problem is avoided by format?

what are those ioctl() calls? They cleanly do the job, but what are these calls actually?

Due to some temporary parallel cabling, VxVM 5.0 began to use two paths to a 3510 disk array:

On c6, the storage array is no longer present and we are going to attach an other storage array on that port - which may conflict with the current layout known by VxDMP.

How could I remove this path from Veritas' DMP control?

I would like to know if it's possible to operate different databases on different filesystem locations.

Background: we are a hosting service, which hosts mysql, web, and smtp to it's customer, but all our services (sql, smtp, http) are located in a different place. We are going to assign a single logical volume to a customer, which will accommodate the customer's mailing, weppages and (hopefully) sql database. Web pages and mailing are already covered, but I am not able to find a configuration setting which would enable me to specify the location of a database (the directory where mysql stores the DB).

Let me please highlight, the target here is to relocate different databases to different locations in the filesystem, not moving them from a single place to an another (single) place.

Also please do not bother answering with soft and hard symbolic links. ;)

I have found an interesting "feature" of make

but it seems to work in a strange way:

of course if I issue ls -lad /test/{a,c} from my shell works.

Question: how can I get make to evaluate this pattern as the shell would do?

I've been told there's a tool which can be ran from a currently-running Windows to create an image of it, which later can be used, or converted to a format which can be used by vmware. Since I have some special conditions I wouldn't discuss, I need to copy the currently-running windows Vista with this tool.

How this cloning tool is called?

UPDATE: "special conditions" include a hard-drive encryption called as PointSec, therefore I really can not mirror the disk off-line.

I need to get reliable Internet connection behind a restrictive firewall.

facts:

• firewall handless HTTP CONNECT to anywhere as long as it goes to destination port 443
• I have some servers publicly accessible on Internet but they are all handling traffic on port 443

Therefore:

• I cannot use "regular" tunnel over http tools like corkscrew or httptunnel as my port on 443 is busy
• I cannot connect to any other ports but 443, as http proxy will not let me do it,
• I cannot change already-running https server's port on my servers

As I operate a reverse-proxy (pound proxy, a http-http router and load balancer) on port 443, I could start a "fake" httpd behind my reverse-proxy and set my reverse proxy to handle tunnel oriented connections to this "fake" httpd, which would handle the connections from my computer behind the restrictive proxy.

Do anyone knows a http IP tunnel software which operates as a client-server model and uses "fake" httpd to listen to incoming tunnel connections?

Since I got an external program (imapfilter) modifying my imap folder, thunderbird keeps loosing track of new messages. Messages are moved upon arrival in sub-folders, making Thunderbird unable keep tracking them - therefore I have no clue which folders to look for new messages, and newly created folders (even I subscribe them after creation) does not show up until I restart the mail client.

Is there any extension or setting for Thunderbird which I could use to trigger re-scanning my folder tree?

Please don't waste time on advices like

I get some mails arriving (on an IMAP server) with subject like:

[1270503] apple
[1272481] bottle
[172481] wine
[43172481] grapes

I need these letters to be moved in INBOX.CSR.number where number is the one standing in "[ ]" s in the subject. The mailbox shall be created, if does not exists.

Since I'm not familiar with LUA programming language, I find difficult setting up imapfilter (http://imapfilter.hellug.gr/) to do this.

update1: i need to rearrange the letters on the IMAP account folders. No file operations possible.
