I have a win server 2012 r2 server named ws7. from my other windows 2012 server that is currently our primary active directory server named ws4 I am trying to create a RODC for a remote office with limited bandwith
I am trying to "pre-create a read only domain account" and when I enter the name of the server it gives me the error"
The Specified computer name "ws7" already exists in the domain "mydomain.local"
The server ws7 is joined to the domain but i'm not sure what to do next
I am setting up a fileserver at a remote branch office that has very very limited bandwidth
Is there a way to store the 10 or so users authentication credentials locally on the File Server so that the machine does not have to be on VPN 24/7.
we have a windows server 2012 with AD on it. we sync that to office 365 but a few of the options like moderated email groups are not present.
I contacted Microsoft tech support about this and they said there was no way to override the settings in 365 because they were synced so i would have to add the extensions on my AD server
they suggested installing a trial of exchange then uninstalling it. That seems risky to me
Is there a save way to install the extensions

I now noticed that when i try to visit www.markonsolutions.com that dns doesn't know what to do with it.
my questions
1) is this a bad practice to name our internal domain the same as our internet domain (my intention was to simplfy my users lives by giveing them the same log on as there email addresses)
2) If its not a big deal to have them both under the same name How can I add www or any of my other sub domains to go out to the internet dns?

Hi all I want to start using my SBS:Essentials server as a RDP gateway but i'm getting cert errors saying can't connect becuase its an unverified certificate
Is there a cheap/Free way to issue a cert that will allow me to get around this?

Im trying to use my sbs essentials 2011 server to allow users to remote into their machiens remotely
everything is setup on the server but when I try to remote i get the error
"this computer can't verify the identity of the rd gateway" xxxxx" its not safe to connect to servers that can't be idendified. contact your network administrator for assistance"
this seems like a cert error so i googled it and i found this website http://www.andrewstechnology.co.uk/reference/tips/44-sbs2011-rd-gateway-cant-verify-error.html
that says there should be a package that i can download and install on home computer to install the certs locally
the problem is that the instructions are for standard edition of sbs and not essentials and the path given doesnt seem to exisit

I have a joomla install that were going to take "live". It currently is in www.markonsolutions.com/joomla
but I would like to move it to either just the root dir or to something like www.markonsolutions.com/m/ (to keep things organized in the direcotry and have a index.html redirect to the m dir
I edited the the configuration.php in the root of the joomla folder to reflect www.markonsolutions.com/m then I renamed the direcotry to M and i can see the text of the front page but it wont load any pictures and all the links link back to /joomla dir
any ideas on what to try next

I see that sda1 is the system drive

I had a pretty big scare when my company file server filled up.
after tacking down the source I discovered that there is a .recycle folder that keeps ALL the files ever deleted (which is also hidden)
Is there anyway to disable this feature?
or periodically run a command that will delete all the junk?

We had our samba server (ubuntu 8.04 ltr) share fill up the other day but when I went to look at it I cant see any of the shares have to much on them
we have 5 group shares and then each users has an individual share
one users has 22gigs of stuff a few others have 10-20mb of stuff and everyone else is empty
so maybe like 26gigs total
I deleted a few files yesterday and freed up about 250mb of space today when i checked it it was completely full again and i deleted some older files and freed up about 170mb of stuff but i can watch it slowly creep down in free space.
I keep running a df -h

what can I do to try to hunt down whats taking up so much of my hdd? (im fairly new to unix in general so i apologize if this is not well explained)
Im upgradeing my router from a netgear fvs318
one of the problems im running into is on the old net gear i have opend ports under the "Add Service " for our voip

but on the new linksys/cisco rotuer i don't see any option to just open a port i see port forwarding (which i dont want because i have more than one phone) and port triggering that i have no idea what that does.
does anyone know either how to allow open ports on this router or how to use port tiggering to allow my phones to work with the ports listed above?

I'm setting up a cisco 881 (this is my first ios device)

im trying forward all incoming port 80 traffic to 10.10.10.60 and I don't see that option anywhere in the cisco configuration professional. so i assume ill have to add it command line style

I just installed Act premium for web on my Windows Server 2003.
I'm reading through the instructions it says to create an asp.net impersonation account but it doesn't give any details on how (because apparently it's different for each version of Windows).
Does anyone know how to create something like this so I can get this app up and running?

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I installed the code at the bottom of each page before the body tag but after 3 or 4 days the GA webpage is giving me no response ( just the yellow triangle)

I'm doing some test hosting of an asp.net program I created
I can access it fine from the local machine (both debugging and pointing the virtual directory to it)
I can also access (local) by using the localhost or using the ip
however when i get on a different machine on the same network (i can ping my machine)

Firewall is 100%default nothing appears in the event logs under application,security or system
I was wondering if anyone knew the location or had any experience updating media wiki to the newest version
1.15.1
I see lots of documentation for Linux installs but i can't seem find any for Windows.
I just "inherited" this box and don't usually handle this type of stuff so any step by step guide would be great.
I just inhereted our companys mediawiki and
1) what files need to be backed up to be able to restore it to a diffrent machine
2) i see there is an update to 1.15.1 I looked over the site but i don;t see any instructions for upgrading a windows based install
