I'm new to vagrant and veewee. I'm trying to build a debian 7.4 image but after running the build

veewee vbox build 'debian-7.4'

the process gets stuck on the installation of libssl because it requires the user input to restart some services (ssh ntp exim4)

Unfortunately this is shown inside the terminal and I couldn't find any way to hit "ok" and then, of course, I get this message.

SIGNAL: 3                                                                       
Ssh timeout 10000 sec has been reached.

Of course I can work around this by continuing the installation by hand through the virtualbox GUI but this should not happen in unattended installation.

How can I force the installation process to restart the services without waiting for the user input?

The title should be self explanatory but more in detail I'm looking for a way to protect the ldap from LAN brute force attacks.

It would be fine to prevent password guessing by locking a password for a specified period of time after repeated authentication failures. It doesn't matter if this can be turned into a DOS.

Unfortunately I can't find a way to do this and the documents I've found are really confused.

I'm currently dealing with a Windows 2003 (web) server, definitely not my cup of tea.

The target is to download and keep synchronized some folders (~55GB) with a linux server.

The windows server is somewhere in internet and my connection is a common 4M/512 adsl.

I thought about rsync and looks like there are some ways to do it:

1. using rsync on both sides (with cygwin on win)
2. using grsync on both sideds (with cygwin? on win)
3. using deltacopy on win and rsync on linux
4. using robocopy passing through another local win machine which mounts the linux folder shared via samba

Since it's a production server and there aren't enough backup strategies neither the resources to put up something, I'm not willing to play with it and I'd like to avoid any modification to the registry or to make untrusted/tricky installations such as cygwin and similar.

So, 1) is rejected.

I suppose that also grsync uses cygwin (not specified on their website) but it's probably better packaged 'cause they say it's a "one click" installation. I gave a look at the cygwin readme and they say that there are some complications with win2003, so I'm starting thinking that grsync doesn't smell so good.

Questions:

• have you ever tried to install grsync on win2003? Any tip?
• which one of the solutions is more appealing to you?
• do you have any other better solution?

Is there anyone aware of someone seriously working on thunderdbird to get write support on ldap shared addressbook?

I'm looking for a 4 ports pci or pci-express (not pci-x) sata controller with these features: - real hot swap support - no RAID support, or with RAID support that can be disabled through the controller bios interface or reflashing the bios

My need is to hot plug/unplug one or more different sata1 and/or sata2 disks from different brands size and speed (even at the same time), coming from my customers computers to perform lab activities on them, like backup.

I tried several Silicon Image controllers (3112,3114,3124) and Promise TX4. Everyone has issues: some disks are not seen or are dropped during the backup process while the Promise even hangs the host pc with some hard-drives. Adaptec raid (Serveraid 8s) controllers aren't transparent to the operating system and it seems there is noway to disable the raid.

What would you suggest?

We are working on a project which involves different hardware all hosted in a single rack. The machines are mainly IBM servers: 2 x206 (scsi), 1 x226(scsi), 2 x3400(sata) and another assembled machine with sata controllers. We are using several raid controller. Some machines have only one Serveraid controller, others have one or more controllers not always Adaptec ones. All the firmwares and bios are updated. All the servers and connected devices are under ups.

Over the last 4 months we experienced several strange behaviours in our hardware. Suddenly and randomly we loose 2 or 3 drives and the raid volumes stop to work. It can happen once a week but never at the same time of the day or week.

Most of the times a rebuild process fixes the problem, sometimes we loose the data. Very often we just need to unplug the raid controllers, restart the server and the problem is fixed.

At the beginning we thought it was due to firmware bugs but we performed an accurate update for every machine and raid controller and there is nothing else we can do on the hardware. We have really no hint on what's causing all these troubles.

We are starting to think that it's an environmental problem but we don't know if there could be something interfering with our hardware. Have you ever heard of something like that? Do you have any idea on how to investigate the problem?

I use rsync v. 3.0.4 and when I need to move something I use it with the --remove-source-files. I prefer rsync than mv.

Unfortunately, when I use --remove-source-files, the directories are left on the source side (as said in the man). Is there a way to remove directories too once moved all the files?

In the bios interface of Serveraid controller is possible to set the PHY speed. Beside this there is a parameter called CRC check which can be set to true or false.

Knowing this, some questions:

1. What CRC does exactly? Accordingly to wikipedia it should be an integrity check but how does it work?

2. I discovered that setting this parameter to false my disks are finally recognized as sata2 rather than sata1 and speed are really increased. Why?

3. I found this IBM paper in which they say: 'CRC Checking—(Default: No) Determines whether the controller verifies the accuracy of data transfer on the Serial bus. CRC Checking should be disabled on the controller and all devices if any device supported by the controller does not support CRC Checking." How do I discover if a hdd supports CRC?

4. If CRC is disabled and a breaking event occurs, is there a risk?

I have a X3400 with 8 x (43w7598 250GB SATA 3GB/S HDD) set in the frontal bay and connected to ServeRaid 8K controller.

The raid array works well but, even if I set the controller PHY to 3.0 (rather then Auto or 1.5), all the disks negotiate 1.5Gb/s with the controller.

This sounds really weird to me because the disk are WD Caviar Black Sata2 disks (bought from IBM). The firmware is the latest available from IBM (accordingly to the IBM ServeRaid matrix). Any tip?

I'm buying some additional hdd for an IBM server: in the supplier website I see, for ex:

39M4526 IBM 250GB S-ATA HOT-SWAP 3GB/S HDD

43w7598 EXPRESS 250GB SATA HOT-SWAP 3GB/S HDD

The prices are different but they seem equals. I already have some 43w7598 and they have the hotswap enclosure. Is the difference only in the package?

I would like to use the low cost Caviar Green (Western Digital WD20EADS 2TB or WD10EADS 1TB) hard drives in a raid hardware for a not mission critical purpose: is anyone aware about problems due to the rotation scaling (5400 - 7200) typical for these hard drives?

I'm thinking to buy an IBM DS3200 p/n 1726-21X with sata hard drives attached on a IBM sas hba controller and to configure it as "single server, single path" like IBM says in its configuration examples.

Unfortunately I never had one so I would like to know some details from someone who already has one.

1. I have some empty hard disk enclosures (p/n 42R4129 the ones used by DS3200): if I fill them with some hdd from other brands, let's say Western Digital, would they be recognized or are there some bios check on serial number?
2. Does ds3200 support 2TB hdd? IBM says 1TB but I think that's because they do not provide 2TB hdd yet.
3. How many hard drives can be used? any number between 1 and 12 included?
4. Do you have some benchmarks on write and read speed?
5. How does it handle disks? I mean, ds3200 is attached to a sata multilane port and it can be filled with 12 hdd. How are they seen by the controller? like 12 distinct drives or like 4 groups of 3 hdd?
6. Do you have any screenshot of the administration interface?
7. Which device handles the raid? The sas hba controller or the DS3200 itself?
